yeast infection or herpes

After having sex with my partner, I noticed a lump located in between my labia majora and labia minora about a day later.  It is located on the inside of my labia majora.  The lump was hard and didnt appear to have anything inside of it. I played with it which resulted in it growing a bit bigger.  After about a week, it disappeared after leaving it alone/some neosporine/vaseline.  It didn't burn/cause any discomfort.   It never scabbed.  I also performed oral on him, but I did not get any lesions on mouth.  If it is herpes could it be possible to get a lesion on my vagina and not on my mouth. Three weeks later bump appeared again in the same place.  The day before I had vaginal and anal itching (inside the vagina itching) It did not itch where the bump appeared. I thought it could be an ingrown hair because it had two holes in it.   I picked at it with tweezers.  (bump is on the left inside of the labia majora (by hair and some type of glands). After picking at it for some time the bump turned more of a blister.  It is slightly raised and filled with clear liquid.  I tried to pop it, a tiny bit of clear liquid came out, but it would not pop.  It does not hurt when I touch it, burn when I urinate, burn when I get urine on the lesion.  My lesion doesn't resemble any herpes pics I have come across.  I do not have the typical symptoms of genital herpes, except the lump turned blister.  I have two friends that have genital herpes and they said I would now it because it is very painful.  I do have the vaginal itching (inside) and my vaginal secretions are milky white (but not cottage cheese).   I have read on other forums that a yeast infection can cause a lesion in the area that I have mine because it is dark and moist.  My labia minora covers the lesion.  My main symptoms: lesion, anal itching, inside vaginal itching and some milky discharge that is odorless.  Could this possibly herpes?  How long does it take for a herpes blister to burst and turn into an open sore.  Anyone else there that had this problem.  The expert doctor on this website said it was not herpes but Im still not convinced.

it sounds like an inflamed gland or a cyst ( not a bad kind of cyst ).  Typically soaking in the tubby is helpful with them.

Grace,

First I want to say that you are an absolute god send.  It is amazing to me that you take time out of your life to respond to so many posts!  I do appreciate your time more than you know.  I know I am perseverating on this so please bear with me. It is a very scary time for me.  Today my lesion (whatever you want to call it) is almost flush with my skin.  It is perfectly round and about the size (diameter) of a pencil eraser. It still does not hurt and is not an open sore by any means. I wouldn't even know it was there.  The color of it is a bit lighter than the surrounding skin (like a light pinkish/white color)  There is no scab forming, just seems to be healing.  Due to the area that the sore is located, do you think the reason it is not turning into an open sore and scabbing over is  because it is very moist in that area.  Thank you for taking the time.  You are a wonderful lady!

Your symptoms just do not sound like herpes.  They sound far more like exactly what Dr Hook said they sound like - just you've been picking and prodding at them.

The otc vaginitis kits are just ok. Just measuring ph isn't always good enough and they really can't replace a proper examine and testing in the doctor's office. Since you aren't sure yet what is going on, I don't recommend self treating for yeast - I recommend following up and proper testing in the clinic.  I know it's a pain in the butt - do it myself even.

Also I'm not sure which acidophilus supplement you are taking but most do not colonize the urogenital tract ( no matter what they say ) to be remotely helpful. They are good for bowel probiotics, not as urogenital probiotics. The only otc product in the US I"m aware of that does contain strains of bacteria that will colonize the urogenital tract consistantly to help with vaginitis is the one sold by jarrow in the US under the name of fem dophilus. Lots of terrific articles to read on pubmed.gov by Dr Gregor Reid on probiotics and vaginitis in females for more info.

Okay so now I just found out the blood test I took is usually unreliable.  I took a blood test that measure Igm antibodies and does not indiate which type pf herpes is positive (if it is positive)  This suck!

Thank you Grace.

I had a blood test today and hoping to get the results soon.  I did take an over the counter yeast infection test which tested at a PH level of 4.5 and could possibly be a yeast infection since I have other symptoms present.    (but has ruled out BV and Trich) I have been taking Acidophalous pills for the past three days.  Could that have brought my PH levels down.

Why are you so convinced that I don't have genital herpes?.  Is it because the sore I have is not painful at all and the location is unusual for herpes.  Do herpe blisters always pop and turn into open sores? Are herpe soars always painful?

Believe me, I dont want herpes but I am so convinced that I have them.  Thanks you some much for your time.... you are a blessing!

Dr  Hook's reply to you is very similar to what I would've said.  You need to follow up on this with your provider sooner rather than later. Get your vaginal secretions tested to see if any infection is present.   from this point on absolutely do not pick or poke or tweeze anything going on down yonder - you risk turning something that is most likely not an issue into an issue but allowing it to become infected.
