yeast infection?

I was told I may have genital herpes. I developed a yeast infection while taking antibiotics for a sinus infection, unfortunately I didn't realize what it was and waited 5 days to go see a doctor. the last 2 days before I was seen urination was severely painful and my entire genital area was red and swollen. The day I saw the doctor I had blisters some of which had burst and were open. The doctor did no testing just diagnosed me with a yeast infection and herpes. I've read a bunch of places that yeast infections can cause blisters of this type if left untreated for too long. should I be worried about herpes?

I don't like what you are describing. Your partner's blood tests will therefore reveal whether he has herpes and if he does then you''ll have identified source and type.

Like I said, the blisters are spreading and the pain is increasing. the only way I've found any temporary relief is using corn starch to keep everything dry

The positive impact would be felt very quickly, within the first day or two of taking the tablets as prescribed.

how many days does it usually take to notice that it's working? This is the fourth day I've been on it and so far it's gotten worse.

It is a very effective medication for herpes, but will have no impact of course if it isn't!

Either way pleased you had your tests to give you more insight.

yeah I had a swab and blood work done I'm just waiting for the results now. The doctor keeps saying the Valtrex should be working, but it's not.

Did you have the various tests undertaken?

If this is herpes then there is almost no doubt your current partner is the source.

I'm taking Valtrex. It's 2 times a day for 10 days. I've read a lot of people get it for 5 days and take it up to 5 times a day and see results after 7? I've only been on it for 3 days, but my symptoms keep getting worse and the blisters are spreading. I went back to the doctor and was told they can't do anything for me not even give me something to help with the pain.

He's coming with me so we're going to see if they'll just take us both to be sure. Thank you so much.

Potentially.

If the swab is positive and the blood negative, then you almost undoubtedly were infected in the last few months.

Swabs can miss the infection as the virus has dissipated from the sore such that a positive blood test would be a diagnosis.

Negative on both, plus a negative blood for your boyfriend (assuming no other partners for either of you in the last three months) means you are negative.

If you boyfriend doesn't test, then you don't know his status and what might be there potentially awaiting transmission.

would the blood test show something different in me than a swab test?

Ask for a swab that is tested for HSV1 and HSV2 using PCR. Further ask for blood to be drawn for the IgG antibody HSV1 and HSV test for you and your boyfriend.

How would they test me since I have blisters now

I cannot see what your boyfriend has to lose in testing immediately here. If it is negative then he is not a source and if it is three months since both of your last exposures to another partner then your negative blood tests would immediately eliminate herpes in the relationship. Hence you should obtain a blood test IgG for HSV1 and HSV2 as well.

he's a recently new boyfriend. The person I was with before him  I know for a fact got tested and wasn't with anyone other than me. He wants to get tested but we've been told that if I was the one who exposed him not the other way around it takes 3 months to be able to detect it in his blood. I was never actually tested, the doctor at the clinic I went to just looked and said that's what it was. I made an appointment to have a swab test done tomorrow to find out if it's actually what it is. I just wanted to make sure there were other possibilities and that this doctor could have possibly made a misdiagnosis.

A long term boyfriend?

Perhaps ask that he test in order to assist you in eliminating possibilities.

I've never had blisters before in my life. I was being really careful to keep the area clean and dry so the blisters literally developed overnight. I was having sex with my boyfriend up until 2 days before I started feeling itchy. I got my period and I usually feel a little itchy once in a while during the week I have it so I didn't think anything of it until it started to burn during urination and inserting a tampon was painful. I then noticed the discharge common with a yeast infection, but that was on a Friday night so I had to wait until Monday to be seen by a doctor.

You are right, this need not necessarily be herpes, yeast can be the cause of all these symptoms.

Are these the first blisters you have ever noticed in the region? What sexual contact did you have in the two weeks leading into the emergence of the blisters?
