High Systolic Pressure

Hello,

I have been keeping track of my blood pressure lately because the last time I went to the doctor it was elevated.  I am a 21 year old male.  I am overweight by about 40 pounds.  I was a frequent chewing tobacco user but I quit about two weeks ago for the sake of my health.  I also have started a exercise regiment recently to try and lose some weight and increase my overall health.

While tracking my blood pressure I noticed that my systolic pressure runs high and my diastolic pressure runs normal.  My average blood pressure is 155/71.  The diastolic number has never been over 80 but my systolic number has never been under 120.  I cannot figure out why my systolic number is high and I can't find much information online.

I have a terrible problem with anxiety and was recently diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder.  I also get nervous when I am checking my blood pressure.  Could anxiety cause a high systolic reading?

What are some other possible causes for high systolic pressure?

Thanks

What you are experiencing is systolic hypertension, you can Google that and find considerable information.

Hope this helps,
