cat might have a head injury
hi i have a cat about five years old i was holding her when she wriggled out of my grip she fell maybe a metre and a bit right on to her head ,after the fall she slowly got up but was wobbly and now she keeps itchting the part of her head that she fell on and is a little slow .I keep asking my mother to take her to the vet but shes insisting that shes fine. I don't know what to do!! can someone help me?

her name is roxy :) and nah she was scratching her head with her back foot and i think i was overreacting.She is completely good now thankyou for all your help x :)

I'm really glad to hear your kitty is feeling better. Out of curiosity, what's your furbaby's name ? When you use the term "scratched", do you mean
patted ? Just wondering. Glad to hear she's walking fine. As far as sitting
a bit funny, our cat Sammy doesn't always sit straight, especially when
he's sitting in a chair.. Our cat is a big male ginger cat. Sometimes he
looks like a big teddy bear sitting in a chair. I think you might be overreacting a little bit. :) I think that's normal though. You might be looking
for changes since that accident occured. So glad to hear your kitty is okay.

she is acting better thanks she doesnt like to get stratched near her head still but shes walking fine and everything but she is sitting a bit funny she always sat up straight and now is slouched right over i might just be overreacting any ideas??

I'm glad the info I sent you helped. Your cat's temple is very delicate.
Most cats actually don't like their temple scratched or touched. Our
cat, Sammy, he's a male ginger cat ( 8 years old) doesn't like his
temple touched. I would avoid touching your cat is this area especially
if this is where your cat hurt itself when she fell. If your parents are insisting that your cat is fine, she probably is. It's Friday now, two days after your
cat had the fall. How is she doing? How is she behaving? Eve :)

hey eve thanks for the info it really helped :) also my cat loves getting scratched around her ears/temple and her jaw but when i go near her temple she pulls away i think this is where she fell first my parents are still insisting that she is fine and since i am only 14 i cant do much but i might try and call the vets receptionist since i am only a kid would they still help me?

I just finished reading your comments about your cat falling. You say she
keeps itching the part of her head that she fell on and is a little slow.
I don't want to alarm you, but you need to be aware that your cat may have sustained a head injury from falling. We have a cat too. I'm going to write
down a few statements from the Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook.
this is under the section called Head Injuries. First the author talks about
head injuries caused by cats who are hit by cars. " Other causes of head injury are falls and blows to the skull".
Brain injuries
* Bruising (contusion) . This is the mildest injury; there is no loss of consciousness. After a blow to the head the cat remains dazed, wobbly, or
disoriented. This condition then gradually clears.
* Concussion. A concussion means the cat was knocked out or experienced a brief loss of consciousness. Upon returning to consciousness,
the cat exhibits the same signs as those of a contusion.
There are other types of brain injury like cerebral edema and blood clot.
Signs of Increased Intracranial Pressure
Following a blow to the cat's head , you should watch for signs of brain
swelling or the development of a blood clot. These signs can appear any
time during the first 24 hours after the injury.
" Most cats with head injuries should be hospitalized at least for 24 hours
in an emergency facility with 24-hour coverage. That way, treatment can
be instituted immediately if the cat shows a change in condition.
Here's what I would do if this happened to our cat. I would phone your
vet. I would speak to the vet's receptionist and tell her what's happened.
How the cat is behaving etc. , perhaps even speak to the vet if possible.
Let the vet tell you what you should do. I always safe better safe, than sorry.
