Hsil isnt a type of HPV!!!  It stands for  high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion: A precancerous condition in which the cells of the uterine cervix are moderately or severely abnormal.  It is simply a short abbreviation  to describe the cell changes according to the bethesda system,  which is used to describe cellular changes in the cervix.  Not all HPV strands cause cervical cancer.  Most cervical cancer is slow growing and happens over a matter of years, that is why it is important to get your yearly checkups so they can monitor cell changes and do treatment to prevent cervical cancer!!

It doesn't always cause cancer.  In less than 5% of the people with hpv, will abnormal paps occur.  It's less than 2% will get cancer, and those are the people who didn't get yearly paps and get treatment for abnormal cells.

It takes 10 to 20 yrs for cancer to develop.
