Aldara reaction?

I am being treated with Aldara for HPV and I know that there is some redness and pain associated with the treatment, but I am having a very painful reaction.  It is on the inner labia, not where I put the cream - however, I am sure some of the cream may have transfered there.  It is red, was only slightly itchy early in the day, and by the afternoon it hurt very bad to the touch.  It is almost like an open sore maybe, but it doesn't look like a sore, it just feels... raw???  Is this a reaction to the treatment, or is it something else?  Should I not continue treatment?
