Anyone been tested for HPV?

Hi,

There are hundreds of papilloma viruses, of which HPV 6 and HPV 11 cause most genital warts, and HPV 16 and HPV 18 cause most HPV-related cancers.

I've heard about tests for HPV. Has anyone had them? What was involved? Could you go directly to the lab? Are they able to test for more than one kind of HPV at a time? Any info appreciated, thanks :-)

Women can get tested for HPV via a pap smear at your GYN office or at a clinic. Men cannot be tested except via a biopsy of a wart. The test that women can take will find all strains that any woman can have (low risk and high risk) unless your body has cleared the virus (made it dormant) in which case you may get a negative result because the virus is at a very low level but may actually have it. The virus remains in your body forever but it can be dormant forever and you won't be infectious (for some period of time that no one can predict).
