Could I be infected? HPV (warts) with no visible warts after 10 years??.

I have been with the same person for 6 years, we have 2 children together and I have been 100% faithful to him the whole 6 years.  About a month and a half ago a bump appeared on his penis (there were actually 2 small ones, but he only told me there was one....guilt?). Now, almost 2 years ago, I suspected he had an affair at work, he swore up and down that he wasnt... made me think I was crazy etc. Like I said, I have been faithful and still remain faithful to this day.  So the bump shows up and he goes to his primary care doctor.  He says the doctor says it doesnt look like a wart, it's probably nothing but he is going to send him to a dermetologist.  Almost another month goes by and he was dragging his feet about making the appointment (guilt?).  Finally, yesterday he made the appointment for today.  He called me when he got out of the doctors office and sure enough...they're warts.   He is still swearing up and down that he never slept with anyone else and has never been unfaithful the whole relationship (6 yrs).  He said his doctor told him he could have contracted HPV 10 years ago and just now a wart appeared for whatever reason.  I find that VERY doubtful but Is it possible? He even went as far as trying to blame me for being unfaithful (guilt?)  Anyways, I think he contracted it 2 years ago and is lying about being faithful.  He hasn't been sick, no cold, flu etc.  He actual had surgery on his leg in July, he had an infection where they performed the surgery a month after so Wouldn't that make his immune system low?? Wouldn't the wart have appeared then, when his immune system was low if he contracted it years ago? Im so confused and concerned.  I want to believe him but I DON'T.  I haven't been sexually active with him since the wart appeared, but could I still be infected? I have no visible warts and I never have. I have only been with him and I have had paps over the years that never came back abnormal....so they couldn't have been from me "years ago".  The doctor froze them off and should fall off, but now what? Is this going to keep happening? Are they going to keep randomly appearing? Should I be concerned about having HPV now? When is it safe to have sex with him again.....if I choose to. If someone has ANY answers to my questions, I would really appreciate the help!! Thanks!

Yes, his warts could have come from a sex act 10-20 years ago. This is why no one can play detective with HPV and point to a single sex partner as the "cause".  At this point, you should consider that you have what he has even though you show no symptoms. If you two decide to stay together, you can have all of the un-safe sex you two want, about 3 months after his last wart is gone. He should wait just to make sure they don't come back.
