Dating someone with HPV/Genital warts. Need advice

by Pat830250, Sep 21, 2008 09:39PM
My partner has genital warts. We have not had any form of sex yet. This is the second occurrence of genital warts in my partner (as in they were treated before, went away, but came back). They are on both genitalia and anus and are being removed later this month.

I need advice as to what my risks are for contracting the virus. I understand that HPV is very common and that I have probably already been exposed to some form of the virus at some point in my life, however I do not have genital warts and definitely don't want them!

I'm a little worried about getting genital warts and I'm not totally clear on how great the risk is.

ANY help on the follow questions would be DEEPLY appreciated....

- Even after the warts are removed, can I still get them from skin contact?

- My partner does not have warts in the mouth, however could I get the virus through kissing/making out and possibly develop warts in my mouth/throat?

- Can I develop genital warts via receiving oral sex FROM my partner?

- Besides condom use, what other precautions can be taken during sex once the warts are removed?

Thank you!

1.virus can live in skin for 6-9 months minimum after removal.1.highly unlikely.3.highly unlikely.4.condom use is the only way to prevent the transmission...but they only protect 60-90%.
