I was diagnosed with perianal genital warts awhile back. I have been treating them with Aldara. For awhile it appeared to be working but as the irritation slowly got to the point where it was to uncomfortable I had to stop and allow for some healing. During this healing time it appears that they have gotten worse. I am going to see the doctor again soon as I know this is the best choice but I am also looking for some information in the mean time.
The warts specifically seem to be getting worse immediately INSIDE of my anus. How deep inside of the anus can genital warts grow? Is there any change in the membrane that prevents them from developing further inside?
Beyond Aldara cream, is there anything that I can do to assist my immune system in fighting off the warts? I have gotten over the whole anxiety of having warts but I am to the point where it is getting somewhat taxing to have to deal with them.
Any suggestions in going about telling future partners are appreciated as well.
If they are inside your rectum, they will need to be surgically removed, and the ones one the outside of the anus will need to be fulgurated. It is extremely important that all of them are removed at the same time. You might also want to talk to your surgeon about using podophyllin during the surgery. Make sure you understand the level of pain and recovery time from the surgery. It is an extremely, extremely painful recovery, and you need to be on heavy pain meds immediately afterwards.
