Can I get genital warts if he is not in an "active" outbreak of them? Wouldn't I have gotten an outbreak by now myself if he gave the virus to me? Is there a chance that I will get warts at a later time?
Partners almost always share HPV infection, so it is likely that were exposed to the virus and are either asymptomatic or have cleared the virus. Warts usually appear within a few months of infection, but sometimes they appear a years after exposure. This is less commonCommon cold though. If warts develop, have them treated. If not, there is no sense in worry about them. It might be a good idea to let your doctor know of your exposure so he or she can do a more thorough examination.
