Do pap/smear tests always show up HPV.

sorry for reposting but i didnt know how to edit my previous question. Do pap/smear tests always show up HPV, even if there are no symptoms etc? I want to know as if my girlfriend has already been tested and came up negative, but then has sex with me and i transmitted it to her, would she be able to denote that it was me who gave it to her? this is a huge source of anxiety for me. thank you for reading my question.

Pap smears will show the presence of HPV at the time the test was taken.  A second test could identify a positive result even if the woman does not have sex in between tests. It is impossible to point to any specific sex partner or sex act as the one to blame but the most recent partner is always the most likely person.  Do realize that it takes about 3-9 months from the sex act to get a positive result.  Also realize that a negative result does not mean she never had it. A negative result just means the test cannot detect it at that time because it is at very low levels.  This is why a woman can go from being positive to negative after a procedure is performed on her to remove the pre-cancerous cells.

I know this sounds confusing but it spreads due to various reasons including the lack of a test for men and the fact that no one can play detective with it and say it came from a particular partner.
