HPV doesn't hurt so I think your pain may be caused by something different. It takes a long time for hpv to cause cancer. I know someone who just died of cervical cancer and she was in her 60's. Whether she went for regular pap's, I don't know.
Cervical cancers is a very easy cancer to treat. Most women get treatment and are fine after that. Pregnancy is also ok. My bff has had 2 kids since finding out she had an abnormal pap caused from hpv. She had LEEP and so far so good. She had all this done a few years before her pregnancies. She now has two beautiful children and they are all healthy.
As long as you keep up your paps, and take care of any abnormal cells before they develop into cancer, you should be ok. It's when women stop going to the gyn and getting regular paps that problems start. The sooner something is found, the better it is and the easier it is to treat.
Tom - they can test your wife for HPV. Usually they take a sample at the same time as a pap smear.
I've was diagnosed a few years ago with HPV (high risk) and have never felt any pain. I didn't even know I had it until the dr. tested me.
I find you story interesting. I was recently diagnosed with oral hpv and my wife has been complaining of the same symptoms you describe. Is her pain w/o other symtoms possibly hpv? She recently had an ultrasound of some sort and found nothing.
Pregnancy should not be a problem but check with your doctor first.
Sometimes it takes longer than two years to go away, I was just diagnosed and i feel the best when I fight the stress my symptoms completely go away.
