Genital warts and cervical cancer

I found genital warts on me about Oct. of 08 i am married, as soon as i found the warts i told my wife immediately i am currently still treating the reoccuring warts. I've done a lot of research on this and most say that genital warts wont lead to cervical cancer but in the same arguement i have not seen any signs of warts on my wife. So far all of her paps have come back clean so i am just stuck, i am not sure what to think about this. I've heard that the body will clear itself of this and develope some sort of immunity in a sense. My focus is my wife, what are her risks of cervical cancer, may she have warts that a pap smear is missing. I hope i can get a professional opinion to perhaps put my mind at ease. Thank you in advance.

the strains of hpv that causes warts(low risk) DOESN'T cause cancer (high risk)..and having high risk DOESN'T mean that a person will get cancer/medical issues..she should go see her gyn for an exam to see any possible warts and have an hpv test for the high risk strains..i posted a HPV Q and A..there could be more answers that you may have

This is a community site. As far as I know, no medical experts post here.

A pap smear cannot determine if an HPV infection is present. Most people with HPV infections will have normal paps. It is useful in determining if there have been any changes to the cervix that may be precancerous.

Genital warts are usually diagnosed through visual inspection.

Fortunately, they are almost always harmless. If you wife has warts, or a doctor notices some, she should get treatment, otherwise there is nothing to worry about. Most people with HPV don't have any symptoms and clear the virus within 6-24 months.
