Genital warts and hiv

by kyliem, Apr 08, 2009 04:39AM
Does having genital warts increase your risk of having hiv?!
I was recentley diagnosed with genital warts and have read many different things about it!! I have only had one sexual partner I dont see him anymore but am pretty sure he would have been in touch if he thought he had hiv.
I have had the warts frozen off and they only aappeared around the anus and do not appear anywhere else or inside. I havec taken an hiv test and the results are due back but I am worried sick as some websites say that genital warts can indicate hiv is this true?! Thankyou

hey,

i am sure you will be fine, 99.9 % of people on the planet have HPV, (ME TOO). warts are a pain, this may or may not re surface now and again. However you have had unprotected sex which means you should get tested. I must say tho that your rish is very low with one partner. were as warts are very common.

take it easy and wear protect as even if you dont see the warts you still have the infection and are at risk of giving it to others.

Dont panic tho youll be back to normal in no time, i know how you feel. it will pass.

Take care x

Ok, well for one, I have been researching HPV for a week or so and haven't read anywhere that this indicates you have HIV, Plus, like 75-80% of people in the U.S have or will have a form of HPV in their lifetime, which of course not this many people have HIV compared to HPV. Most people's bodies get rid of the warts within 2 years anyway and usually puts the virus into a dormant state to where you won't have another outbreak of visible warts...unless of course your immune system goes down or what not. But, best to get the warts treated. I'm sure you are alright with the HIV though, just use protection next time.

hey

warts are easy to treat go to a STD clinic and they should remove them for you, even your local doc can do this, as for oral sex it will put you off when you have them but its just somthing that once it gets some treatment youll soon forget about them, so relax and just see the doc for reqular check ups, as for the HIV as i said before the chances of contracting that virus from 1 sexual partner with unknown status is in the 100,000 to 1 catagory, even having sex with someone with HIV dosnt always mean you will contract the virus, however you should get checked as you have been sexually active, but as i say its just a formallity and also peace of mind for you.

take care
