Girlfriend with cancer causing HPV

I am a 22 yr old male seeing a girl whom I have not had any sexual contact with yet. (not even kissing). I have been made aware that she carries a strain of HPV that has given her cervical cancer that is now considered to be cured. At this point I am highly concerned that, if we do engage in sexual activity, oral / intercourse, that I will be carrying her cancer causing strain of HPV that I will then transfer to any future sexual partners.

I know condoms don't really help in the case of HPV and I'm not concerned about symptoms in myself (as they are rare in men)--but if we do have sex, then I am concerned about spreading HPV to other women, particularly a strain that leads to cervical cancer. Is this a reasonable concern? I would really appreciate some expert advice on this one. All I want is to act responsibly to those I involve myself with (and not give people cancer).

Thank you

All types of HPV are cleared by most people. If she has cleared the virus and is considered cured, then she will not transmit HPV to you.

You need to find out what strand of HPV she has and that will determine wheither its spreadable or not. Most HPVS are curable and treatable. Some are not. Some she will carry with her for the rest of her life. But I would ask her what strand she has and do some research based on her particular strand.
