HPV/Oral

I'll start off with saying I was diagnosed with genital HPV about 7 or 8 months ago. I had a long term boyfriend at the time who also had them. His went away on their own within about 2 months and never came back, mine stayed and I got them burned off, I'm going in for my last check up this week. They are gone, but I still have some sore spots from where I had them burned off.

Since then, my boyfriend and I have broken up. Therefore, I haven't had sex for about 2.5 months. However, during our relationship, when we weren't having vaginal sex, I was giving him oral most of the time, after his warts had gone away. I know that it's still possible to contract them when they are gone so that's why I am worried.

I have been sick with a sore throat/runny nose/cough for the last (at least) three weeks, I went to the doctor and they said I had a strain of strep that antibiotics couldn't take care of and I had to fight it off on my own. However, I'm worried that I have HPV in my throat or mouth because of how badly my throat hurts when I swallow. I also noticed a painless, skin colored, lump underneath my tongue, one that hasn't been there before. I'm really worried that I have contracted this in my mouth. I also gave oral to a new guy a few days ago and don't want to have infected him, as well. Please, please, please, please help.....

Go see your dentist. Always start with seeing a dentist about any oral issues. If necessary, your dentist will ask you to see an oral surgeon or an ENT doctor to have the lump removed and biopsied. Good luck!

Hi, I don't think you have oral HPV, calm down. I am not a doctor but I had genital warts myself and I share something from my experience. I am not sure about the lump under your tongue, you should have that checked by a doctor. Does it look cauliflower like?
As for transmiting genital warts by giving oral sex: I don't think that's a major concern (if it turns out what you have under your tongue is not a wart). I was diagnosed with genital warts 5 years ago. I cleared them up in about a month (using apple cider vinegar) and I didn't have any other occurences since. I performed oral sex on a man about 1 year after my diagnoses, without protection. He knew about my history but chose to take the risk. He didn't take the virus from me, he never developed warts, he was ok. I hope this helps calm you down a little. But go an see a doctor, to be sure about your oral lump.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL

Hello,
HPV is one of the commonest sexually transmitted diseases and can be transmitted if you gave oral sex to your boyfriend. However from your symptoms it looks more like a bacterial or viral throat infection rather than HPV. You can consult a physician and get a rapid strep test done to confirm the diagnosis.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
