HPV Questions

by Wilson759, Jul 30, 2008 05:52AM
Some questions regarding HPV:

(a) According to the internet, HPV infection will go away about 70% in the 1st year and 91% in the 2nd year. Once HPV infection go away, HPV DNA test will be unable to detect the virus. In such case, can HPV vaccine prevent reinfection of virus once the virus cannot be detected by HPV DNA test?

(b) Will the HPV reappear and be detected again by HPV DNA test after the virus disappeared after sometimes?

(c) According to the internet, HPV does not like mouth area. According to Dr. HHH, he has never seen a case of oral HPV due to oral sex. How about those oral warts pictures in the internet? How those people get those oral warts?

(d)  I have seen from the internet. Man can also get tested for HPV DNA, but according to Dr. HHH, man cannot be tested for HPV DNA. I have asked a laboratory, they confirm man can also do a HPV DNA test. Which to follow?

Thanks

The vaccine only works against strains you are currently not infected with.  Even if you've been diagnosed with HPV, it is a good idea to get the vaccine.  But it will not make your current infection go away, only your own body can put it in check.

HPV is tricky.  There's a lot of information about this in the expert forums.

Sometimes oral warts are not sexually transmitted.  However, in people with severely impaired immune system (often from AIDS) oral warts can appear from sexual transmission.

There is currently no test to detect HPV in men.  The only way a man can be officially diagnosed with HPV is when he develops genital warts.

I know I probably  was not the statistical norm when it came to beating the HPV virus but I got diagnosed with it when I was 19.  By that time I had severe cervical dysplasia (cancer causing cell changes).  It had only been a year since my last pap which was normal.  My gyno did the usual treatment and it would not go away.  I believe a year or so later we were still trying to treat it and it was not going away so he sent me to an oncologist/gynocologist who treated me until I was about 26.  Throughout all that time I kept showing positive for HPV and dysplasia.  I then got pregnant and I am sure by coincidence, I have had all normal paps since.  I am now 34.  So even though statistically you should be cured within the first 2 years, it doesn't always work that way.

I have seen various research in the internet, some mentioned most of the HPV virus will clear off, some said suppress, some said disappear.

What is the meaning of clear off, suppress and disappear??? Is there any statistic showing that once pap smear or / and HPV DNA not detected, means virus disappear forever?

What is the likelihood of getting oral HPV from oral sex?

Can a man get genital HPV by receiving oral sex?

Can a man get oral HPV by giving oral sex?

Thanks
