HPV after Gardasil

I am currently seeing someone with HPV. After learning this, and before sexual contact, I began the Gardasil vaccines. After my first shot, we had unprotected sex, but he didn't have any outbreaks. After my third and final dose, we have had unprotected sex while he had an outbreak. Am I still protected? I have had no bumps (that i can see, feel), but I don't know that there is a way to test for it to see if I'm carrying the virus. What is the best way to continue on with my sexual realtionship? Do we need to use condoms everytime or only when there is an outbreak or not at all?
