HPV and Masturbating

I was just diagnosed with HPV and the GYN told me that it should leave my system in two years. That means no sex...I know masturbating won't be a problem, but is it possible to use my dildo?? Will that harm anything like the cervix? I know I should've asked her, but I was anxious to get out of there.

Do you have high or low risk hpv? Low risk is the kind that gives you warts, high risk the kind that can give you cervical abnormalities.

HPV does not mean no sex, you can choose to disclose it to sexual partners, mention that 80% of people will get it in their lifetime and you will be surprised at the positive results!

This is not the end of your sex life at all, and there is no need for you to become celibate for 2 years. Use condoms, use a lube with carageenan in it, and you should be fine if you have no visible warts.

This study shows the effect of the carageenan lube on hpv: http://www.hpvmedia.org/index.php?option=com_hpv&view=presentation&id=1110

If you don't understand the figures (I didn't), just read the conclusion.

I hope this all reassures you.

Also to answer your question, I would think a dildo should be fine, just don't be too violent! If it is the low risk kind of hpv with warts then your cervix should be fine anyway, and if it is the high risk kind you should still be ok, it is only a small percentage of cases in which your cervix is affected.

Also, 2 years is the point at which 95% of people have cleared the virus, but a lot of people clear it within 1 year (I think its something like 65 or 70%)

If nothing was mentioned about warts then I would assume you have high risk. It is usually nothing to worry about and will usually clear in time as I said. If you use condoms during sex you should be fine. As I said before 80% of people get this some time in their life.

Don't worry too much.
