HPV and Oral Sex

Hi, I had an unportected Oral sex from an HPV affected woman. Is it possible to get HPV through this method? We also kissed for several times. I am worried about this.

thank you so much timeschange. In your research have you come across anything that suggests HPV can pass to the person who is receiving oral sex ?

HPV is RARELY passed thru oral or by hand to genital touching......almost never. you are at a no risk.

do you know what type of HPV she has? there are over 100 strands of HPV some cause warts, some can cause cancer.

the person I am refering to had HPV and later on she was diagnosed with Cervical Cencer. I never gave her oral sex. I never had genital to genital sex with her ever. We kissed a lot of times and she gave me for once only an uprotected Oral sex for about a minute. She had HPV-16 or 18.

if you look through this forum and look for similar questions as to what your asking ( oral sex) you will find that it is possible check the doctors forum as well, the best thing to do to put your mind at rest is to go to your doctors if you notice anything changing in the private areas. keep up the research and talk to you doctor

Why I wouldn't worry.

1) You don't have any reason to think that she had an oral HPV infection. As turkee said, oral HPV is less common than genital HPV infection.

2) In all likelyhood, you have been exposed and will be exposed to HPV again. HPV is really common. 75% of us (or more) will get at least one infection. If you remove lifelong monogomous couples from the sample, this number gets really high.

3) Even if she had an oral HPV infection, the chance of you getting one through oral sex is really small.

4) Even if she had oral HPV, and transmitted it to you, it probably won't cause any problems (or even symptoms) and will be eliminated in 6-24 months.

5) While kissing may be a theoretical risk, there isn't good evidence that HPV is actually spread this way.
