HPV and cheatring question...pls help

i had a HPV test in 2008 and it was negative. i had one recently and it was positive. same boyfriend since 2007. only 2 long term relationships prior, last one ended 2002.

1. is it obvious he gave it to me?
2. is it obvious he cheated on me between 2008 and now or could he have had the infection from before?
3. could it have been dormant in my system since my last sexual relationship in 2002?
4. Is it possible that the 2008 HPV test was a false negative?

1) No, any one of your sexual partners could of given you the virus. You can catch the virus and have it lay dormant in your system for years, so when you get tested they come out negative as the virus is undetectable. Then sometimes, the virus re-activates and becomes detectable.

2) If you didn't catch it before him then yes there is a possibility he caught it before you two were together. He may not of known he ever had it as there are no tests for men. However, it's unusual to have hpv for such a long time and have it come back... but it happens.

3) Yes. It's rarer to of caught HPV so long ago and years later to experience problems but as I said it happens, and a lot on this forum.

4) Unlikely. Many women get negative results as the virus is sleeping in there systems. When the virus becomes active again you will then test positive. Also, paps don't always detect hpv infections so maybe that's why you got a negative result.

this is a follow up to my earlier post

i actually had the HPV DNA test with the pap in 2008 and both came negative. i was monogamous with my boyfriend since 2007. then again in 2010 i had both pap and the HPV DNA test. If I did not have HPV in 2008 then how could I have it in 2010 without him cheating onme between 2008 and 2010. Is it possible that he infected me before my test in 2008 but it did not get detected in the HPV DNA test?

please help...i am so confused and this is killing our relationship

I answered above. The virus could of been sleeping in your system and was not detectable by the test. When you got tested again the virus was active and detectable.

People with HPV infections go through states were the virus is active and detectable by paps, but then it 'sleeps' and can do for a very long time. Sometimes after that it can become active again
