HPV in a long relationship?

Hey!

I was recently diagnosed with HPV and genital warts. I've never had any syptoms of HPV before this. Once my Pap smear wasn't clean. I think that was about 8 years ago. But I've never actually been tested for HPV before and all of my other pap smears have been clean. I've always had pap smears every two years.

I have been with my husband for 10 years and I have been faithfull. I had vulvar vestibulitis for about 8 years during our relationship. That's why we didn't really have sex that often during that time. We had intercourse maybe once a year and also other sexual activity was pretty rare. About 1,5 ago all the symptoms of Vulvar vestibulitis went away. My husband and I started having sex again. My husband has always claimed that during that time he has always been faithfull to me and that he made a decision long time ago to be with me even when I had Vulvar vestibulitis. But ofcourse now I'm doubting everything. It is just too convenient that after we got our sexual life back, I was diagnosed with HPV.

After my HPV diagnosis I've asked him many times did he cheat on me. But he still says no. I haven't found any suspicious things. I've gone through his phone, e-mails, browser history (5 years of browser history) etc. We anyway spend all of our free time together, beacause we love each other's company.

How long can HPV lay dormant in my body without any syptoms? Is it possible that I got it from him when we first met and didn't get any syptoms and the virus just laid dormant all these years?

Is it possible to get reinfected? What if he infected me when we first met and then I cleared the virus. And now that we started having sex again I got reinfected with the same virus?

I've read so many things that I'm confused now. Somewhere it says that the virus can lay dormant for years and years. But I'm kinda doubting everything. Please help or share your own experiences. Thank you so much!

Unless she didn't have any sex in those 9 years, she has no clue. And unless that was her only sex encounter in her entire life, its nothing more than a guess. If anyone came to me 9 years later and accused me of infecting her, I would laugh it off. Especially if she has been sexually active even once in those 9 years. Good luck proving that in court.

Hey!

Thank you for the reply! How do you know that you haven't been exposed to HPV later than 9 years?

No, it is not possible to get re-infected. People who share the same strains cannot ping pong the virus to each other. It remains for life. There are some people on this site who claim to have been diagnosed 10-20 years ago. It is very rare to get a re-occurrence but it is not impossible. It is also possible to get infected years ago and now women are getting the positive result. Some people think this has to do the strength of one's immune system but this isn't proven. BTW, that unclean pap smear result from 8 years ago may have been a sign of HPV but the test wasn't as popular as it is now.
