HPV

Hello,
My wife tested positive for HPV, and since there is no test for men i did not get tested. i have no symptoms whatsoever, when she was first diagnosed there was nothing visible (no warts) but after the Dr scraped some skin from her vulva and a pap test warts started forming on her vulva! is this normal? (not having symptoms then within a week or so getting them) and one more thing i need to ask is how long do warts usually last, she is using a cream called wartec and when they are gone do they keep coming back?

Yes it is. Some people can go years without an outbreak as the virus lay silently in there system, other people have out breaks near enough straight away. For instance, I experienced symptoms 6 months after exposure but my boyfriend experienced symptoms around a week after exposure. Even though you have no symptoms you may develope them at any given time, or you could be lucky and not produce any symptoms, just have the virus in your system.

In the majority of cases you will get a reacurance after the first initial outbreak, though 90 percent of HPV clears within 2 years. 70 percent in 1 year. There are a small minority of people who have annoying cases which last longer. Your immune system usually clears the virus itself. If they come back quite a few times the doc will probably give her something stronger, or keep her on the same treatment maybe teamed with something else, it all depends on the warts she has.

Thats right, it won't make a difference as you both carry the same virus. I think docters advise not to have sex when treatment like aldara cream is being used as it might irratate the area. Your immune system will eventually take control and cage the virus, hopfully you will be in the majority that clear in 6-24 months.

(If you suspect you may not have the virus yet and you don't want to catch it, then using a condom will lower your risk of catching it).

Thanks Amie, so is it better not to have intercourse for a certain period of time or does it not make a difference since we both carry the same kind of virus and our system will just develop immunity?
