How Long Does HPV Take To Treat?

by Larkin5, Sep 30, 2009 12:55AM
I found out that I have high risk HPV & was very worried at the beginning. I've done a lot of reading on the net about it, & was glad to find this site.

I've got a couple of questions still, but was glad to find that I cannot (or very unlikely) spread it through kissing.

Questions:
1. How long (typically) does it take to purge the system?
2. I was a smoker & since I found out that I have HPV I've quit smoking. How much will not smoking improve my chances of becoming sans HPV?
3. I would like to think that I can abstain from sex, but let's be realistic here...should I tell the dood that I have it? Or let is go? As 80% of people contract HPV in their lifetime?
4. I haven't gotten the vaccine, would getting the vaccine now help to fight off HPV or would it be like tossing a rock at an asteroid? Aka: Useless?
5. Should I be taking any vitamins or eating anything in particular to help treat it?

Thank you for your time, these sites are very much needed.

As far as your health..boosting your immune system is the best way to fight the virus. My doc said to take a multi w/ folic acid, L-Lysine (both maintain and help in cell production), eat veg/fruits, avoid smoking/drinking, exercise, reduce stress as much as possible.

getting the vaccine will only protect you against the strains of the virus that you haven't contracted yet (some not all..there are over 100 types)

I am also very scared about giving it to my kids thru kisses or sharing a drink/fork..trying not to feel like a leper

LOL thanks..I am feeling a lot better now about it...I've learned way more about it since I found out that had HPV. It was scary mostly b/c I didnt know anything about HPV.

Thank you for your advice about the vitamins that I should think about taking...writing them down now for future Walmart trip!!!
