How long before symptoms show up?

by footbagger311, Oct 16, 2008 12:44AM
I believe it was earlier this year or late last year when my wife went to the doctor and found out that she had genital warts.  She told me this and I was wondering how this could have happened if she was faithful like she said she was.  She told me that she got them before when she was like 15; she is 25 now.  We have been married since January of 2007 and been together since January of 2006.

Any help?

She had those warts for 10 years??? She got those at an early age of 15 years??? Are you sure those are hpv genital warts???

If someone gets hpv warts in relation doesn't mean the other partner was unfaithful... The only known reason for acquring hpv strain that causes genital warts is through sex or skin to skin contact of genitals... If she has never been with anyone else, it is most likely that you were infected with this if you had other sexual partners... It is not necessary that you show up symptoms having hpv... Further, almost all hpv infections go away at their own within 6 months to 2 years so it may be a recent infection or she might have been mis-diagnosed for hpv... It is unlikely that warts are still present passing 10 years... Nothing can prove and it does not mean at all that someone has cheated... the virus can stay dorment for years and cause infection when your immune system gets a littel weaker like it happens to a pregnent woman... It has led many people to tragically wrong conclusions because it fails to take into account one of the most mysterious aspects of genital HPV: its ability to lie latent... The virus can remain in the body for weeks, years, or even a lifetime, giving no sign of its presence... Or a genital HPV infection may produce warts, lesions, or cervical abnormalities after a latent period of months or even years.

What other types of genital warts are there?

I saw these alleged "warts" and know they were not there earlier on in our relationship.

Over 100 HPV types have been identified. Some HPV types can cause warts (verrucae) or cancer, while others have no symptoms.

About 30-40 HPV types are typically transmitted through sexual contact and infect the anogenital region. Some sexually transmitted HPV types may cause genital warts, while others do not cause any noticeable signs of infection.

Please note that it's an extremely common STI affecting over 80% of population...
