Hpv resurgence when pregnant

Hpv resurgence when pregnant

Hello.  I was diagnosed with HPV seven years ago and had cryotherapy. Since then I have never had an abnormal pap. Now I'm 10 wks pregnant and I have an abnormal pap.  I know that pregnancy lowers your immune system so I'm wondering 1) if it would cause the same strand of HPV that was there 7 years ago to come back? or 2) if once the HPV has been "resolved" is it gone? 3) since it's been normal for 7 years, if this is possibly a whole new strand that I am now dealing with?  Thank you

It's probably the old one.

1. Possible.

2. Yeah, technically, it is gone.

3. Unless you have a new sexual partner or with someone who has a different strain of HPV, it is possible. Otherwise, no, it is like vandykd3 says, it is probably an old strain.

Hi, I'm back again and this time a bit more educated.  I admit my knowledge on the intricasies of HPV and women isn't the most extensive, but I just got a super intense low-down on women and HPV from a fellow poster on this site.  In it I learned that Women often have abnormal Paps after child birth which doesn’t mean anything except inflammation.
However, sometimes, as it's been posted on this site and been mentioned by the experts, pregnancy can cause old wart infections to resurge as your immune system and hormones go wacky for a while.  Either way the advice is not to worry about it but to chill and wait it out.  If it's inflammation then future Paps will be normal and if it's a resurgence it would most likely go away again.  I've also learned that quite a few doctors aren't as up on current HPV info as they should be because the research is advancing.  So as you speak with your doctors going forward, be aware that they may not have all the facts either. Hope this helps.
