I have HPV without genital warts.

I have HPV without genital warts. I have also infected my boyfriend who now has genital warts. Could we have protected sex? I have seen 2 doctors and their opinions were different, one told me we can and the other we cannot. What do you know about this issue? Thank you!

HPV without warts means its the high risk for cancer strain. HPV with warts means its the low risk strain. Both of you share the same strains. To think otherwise is naive.

He needs to get rid of the warts first and should see a dermatologist asap. If you need to have sex, he should wear a condom because latex condoms has been proven to help in the recovery process. You should get a procedure done to help with the HPV cells present. If he has sex (safe or not) with you, it will delay and may prevent his recovery.

After he is rid of the warts for about 2-3 months, you get you two can have all of the un-safe sex you want because you cannot re-infect each other.

Hi, this seems to be a pretty common thing. How long have you and your boyfriend been having sex? if its been a few months its really hard to say where the virus actually came from. Try not to worry too much! if either of youare having an active breakout, consider taking a break from sex until the warts have been treated and have gone away. most likely you both already share the same HPV infection so there is no way that you guys can really reinfect one another. There may be a good chance that you did not give your boyfriend warts. Most people that have sex already have a few strands of hpv all on their own. If you are looking for reassurance, please read some of dr. Hunter Handsfeild post on the expert forum. Try not to worry, HPV sucks but our bodies usually fight it off within a short time! hope this helps!
