If a person has oral warts does that mean they may have HIV

by jnj5554, May 10, 2008 01:27PM
My boyfriend has warts on the back of his tongue.  I was diagnosed with genital warts last year and was treated with condylox.  Since then I have not broken out and have been taking Vitamin C, B12, B6, B1, E, a multi vitamin and fish oil to help build my immune system.   He has not shown signs of warts on his genital area and we have had unprotected sex and oral sex unprotected.   He is oversees on business for 6 months and the last time we were together was 2 months ago when I went to visit him there.   Since I have seen him he was sick three time.  Once with a stomach virus then almost immedicately after that he had a very bad cold that didn't seem to go away for awhile.  He saw a doctor oversees.  It took him a while to start feeling 100%.   Just last week he noticed bumps in the back side of his tongue.   He went to see a doctor and he said it looks like warts and that it looks virual.  He recommended that he see a dermatologist at the hospital over there.  He made an appointment with the dermatologist and will see them in 10 days.   This will give us the definate diagnosis.  My boyfriend will see a doctor when he gets back home here in the states.  But I told him not to wait and get it checked out there.  My concern is if it is warts and I know they are very contagious, can I kiss him ever again even after the warts have been treated and are gone.   Also, I have been reading a lot about oral warts and am confused with all I have read.....They say they are rare and usually people with oral warts have HIV.  Is this true?  Should he be tested for HIV since he has oral warts?  Do people with oral warts NOT have HIV?  I have so many concerns and hope you can help me.

People get warts on their mouth that are often not sexually transmitted.  Did the doctor say these were sexually transmitted warts?  If not, he should ask.  If there is concern about HIV, the only thing he can do is get a test, that will be the only sure answer.

The warts are on the back side of his tongue and the doctor mentioned that they were warts and viral.  He refered my boyfriend to a dermatologist in Europe to look at it further.   I know my boyfriend was sick with a very bad cold and then right after that he had a bad stomach virus.  So I know his immune system was weak.   It took him a while to start feeling his normal self.  Then the warts broke out shortly after.  I am concerned because I read that oral warts are rare and usually show up in people with HIV.  That is why I asked the question.   I am also concerned if there is a time period that he must until he will not be contagious and will be able to kiss anyone again.   I think I will ask him to get a test done to be sure.  It certainly wouldn't hurt, right?  Thanks for writing empathy60 you seem to be very knowledgable on this subject and we all are very grateful for your imput.   Thank you so much.
