Just found out

So pregnancies tend to show that you have hpv, if you have it.. & I just found out that I do I don't have genital warts and I can't find out if I have cervical cancer until after the baby is born. In a couple weeks they're scraping my cervix.. Not sure why.. I don't know much about hpv I do know that it's pretty common in sexually active people. Just wondering if I could hear anyone elses experience going through it or facts about hpv if anyone is up for it.

To go over ALL of HPV would take hours, so I'll give you the highlights:

1) You have a non-wart causing strain
2) VERY rarely does HPV go on to cause cervical cancer
3) Your body clears the virus in two years or less, but in pregnant women, the virus often pops back up because of a compromised immune system
4) Just about everyone who has sex in their lifetime gets some strain of HPV (85% of people)

If you are under 30 I wouldn't worry about it as even if you have high risk HPV the virus usually clears without help. You only found out you had it with pregnancy because they do so many pelvic exams. If you are over 30  still most of these HPVs turn out to be benign. Then you can just follow up with it as scheduled. Always best to wear protection when having sex with someone you are unsure of.  Good luck with the baby.
