My partner has HPV

Ok.

I'm not going to get into the emotional nitty gritty here, but basically me and my partner spent a bit of time apart.

In this time she had sex with another man and contracted HPV (genital warts).

At the moment she is being treated for it with some kind of cream her doctor gave her.

We haven't had sex since she got HPV.

If I do start having sex with her after the warts have cleared up and her treatment has finished, am I likely to get HPV too?

Thanks

No warts down below are caused by the HPV virus, so it's impossible to get the symptoms without the cause, if you have warts on your penis then you have hpv. Having warts is a sure sign, if they are in fact warts.

Using a condom is never 100 percent safe, but it is very high. The problem is the condom doesn't cover the whole of the infected area, therefore there's a chance you could still get infected.

But if you love her, and you plan to be with her for the rest of your life then you may aswell have sex using a condom and hope for the best. There are no other health effects that come with warts, the low risk strain. It's just unpleasant.

Hey!

So the HPV virus actually could have been in her system for years! It often lays dormant and only shows during a time of stress (much like Herpes). To answer your questions regarding condoms they are fairly useless against HPV due to the fact it is just skin to skin contact and as condoms don't cover everything there is still high risk.

I tell everyone this who asks about HPV please keep in mind that it is estimated 85 - 90% of sexually active people will contract HPV at some point in there life time so don't judge!

also, if her warts clear up are we ok to still have sex using a condom? aren't there still risks involved there? we always use a condom anyway since she's unable to take the pill.

what about oral sex?

can you get the warts but not the virus? she tells me she always had protected sex with this guy.. or is her having warts a sure sign she has hpv?

If you dont want to get it then you will have to refrain from sex for several months after her warts have cleared up, but like Amie said, even then it is a guessing game and she may still be contagious or not

Probably. Even though the warts are gone she will still be contagious. Most people clear (ie the virus lays dormant and no longer contagious) in 6-24 months. Some doctors even say 3 months. However there are no tests so its a guessing game. Just be safe for a few months and use a condom, but if you guys are going to be together forever you may want to just resign yourself to the fact you will probably end up getting HPV too.
