Newly diagnosed

by lving4today, Jun 30, 2009 07:46PM
Well I'm 19 years old, had 3 partners and just today was diagnosed with warts.
I noticed the bumps probably 2 months ago and they had not changed in size or number, and the practitioner could barely see them. She said since I lead a very healthy lifestyle (eating well, not smoking, and tons of regular exercise) that thats probably why they didn't grow.

I got em treated with a TCA burn, so can I expect them to be gone after a week?
My other thing is when would sex be ok? Protected sex of course.

I'm hoping they'd been there for a while and I hadn't noticed and my immune system will soon respond.

The warts might come back. As I am sure you are aware, treatment does not cure the virus but just removes the warts. Until your immune system clears the virus, you are contagious. A common rule of thumb is if you make it 6 months in a row without warts you are probably clear.

If you have a current partner, you probably share the virus, so it is safe to have sex now. New partners should be made aware of the risk, which exists even with condom usage, before deciding if the risk is appropriate.

Yes, I figured there was a possibility with that. I don't plan on having any new partners until this is all sorted out so it's one less stress to add. I do have a current partner now, and I told her the news last night, which was extremely hard, but she took it well.

She said she had been checking for bumps anyway, (we're both health majors anyway and paranoid), but she wasn't too worried because she'll have her pap smear in August.
