Searching for Help

by SeekingAnswers86, Nov 08, 2009 11:29PM
I just found out last week that I had an abnormal pap that came back as ASCUS. My doctor went ahead and did further tests and said that I have some form of HPV. I have been having a yearly papsmear for the past 6 years and have never had this problem. If I have been with the same guy for 2 years does this mean he is the carrier? If so, how come nothing showed up on my last year pap?
I have a follow-up to determine if the HPV could lead to cervical cancer in a month and can't wait to find the answers. Is sex and oral sex ok? Should I be putting this on hold?
If it turns out that the form of HPV I am carrying is cancer-causing, does this mean my bf will also be carrying and could lead to cancer??

HPV CAN lie dormant for decades w/ NO symptoms(warts/low risk or abnormal cell change/high risk). Your doc should test you and tell you whether you have low or high..but you probably have high risk since you have abnormal cervical cells. Your guy could've had it first OR YOU could've..you'll never know. Men usually tend to have NO symptoms for the high risk strain and NO subsequent health issues. Having high risk HPV DOESN'T mean that you'll get or have cancer,,it increases your chance slighlty for increased risk of certain cancers...and even that is small.
I would abstain from receiving oral until your HPV test comes back negative.. sex is ok..you guys can't further transmit the virus, make it stronger/mutate it.You both already have the same strain at this point. Youmay want to use condoms..the jury is still out on giving the cervix a rest from the virus while it tries to suppress it.
High risk HPV in men does increase their extremely small chance of eventually getting cancer..highly unlikely. men are lucky in that the high risk strain very usually causes NO issues..why it's so easy for them to pass it along..because they NEVER know that they have it.
Your body CAN naturally correct the ASCUS...
1. no smoking/drinking
2. eat healthy..leafy dark greens/bright veggies like sweet potato/carrot, veggies and fruit
3.exercise/reduce stress
4. take multi vit w/ folic acid (@ least 800mg  a day) and L--Lysine (rec. by my gyn office..both help to maintain cell growth/maintenace/ disposal of damaged cells

You and your boyfriend more than likely can/will be fine. 90% of ppl suppress it naturally between 6 months and two years. About 80% of sexually active ppl have the virus and NEVER know it! You need to help your body/immune sytem get stronger to help it fight and suppress the HPV virus into dormancy/unable to be detected and transmitted.

ps.. you can have high risk HPV and have normal PAP's..I was just told that I tested positive for high risk HPV but had a normal PAP.  Your PAP's could return to normal AND your HPV test status could go from a positive to negative...

Thank you so much!! I've been dying to ask someone, but don't want to speak to anyone I know. And with my doctor appointment a month away, I can at least relax a little bit for the time being.
