Small redish/brown bump in gential area.

Hey all,

About 6 or 7 months ago I noticed this bump on my genitals. I scratched the bump off easily and it bled for about 15-25 minutes. The bump was a red/brownish color and kind of looked like a scab. The bump was located on my scrotum when flaccid and the base of the penis when erect. I called my health care professional and spoke with a nurse who suggested I monitor the area to see if the bump returns. The bump has not returned and I'm concerned about passing HPV to a partner. I spoke with my PCP about the bump and he said it sounded like Hemoangioma. Any ideas of what the bump could be and how I should go about explaining this mystery bump to sexual partners? FYI I've only been sexually active with 2 people and have always used protection. I also had completely shaved my genital area and the bump appeared about 2-3 weeks later. It was the first time I had shaved down there and I had lots of skin irritation. Thanks in advance.

It would be tough to guess what the bump is, but I don't think it is necessary to disclose it to future partners. Many people have bumps and marks on their genitals that are temporary or not spread sexually. Since it has been gone for six months, if it was a wart, you probably have cleared the virus by now. You should probably get a full STD test to put your mind at ease and to make sure the bump wasn't something like a syphilis canchre. If you test negative, I wouldn't recommend disclosing the bump.
