Spreading of HPV virus

About two years ago I had a frequent unprotected intercourse with my girlfriend. She was my first and she said she had checked for diseases and was clean.

Fast forward 6 months when we broke up, I started to develop Genital Warts by my thigh, groin and sometimes the shaft. After months with warts (and without visiting a doctor) I get fed up and bought some cream online, after using the cream for a few weeks all of my warts went and I haven't had any since then and that was maybe a year ago roughly.

I haven't had an outbreak since but I've got a new girlfriend and I'm worried I'll pass the virus over to her, is the virus still lying dormant? Or has my body gotten rid of the virus?

Any help is appreciated.

The human body never completely removes the virus. You may have made it dormant for a period of time that no one knows the duration (weeks, months, years, decades or forever). Its up to you if you decide to inform your new partner but do realize that without a medical diagnosis of GWs, you really have no idea if what you had was HPV or not.
