Test shows HPV not detected

Almost 2 months ago I had a papsmear done and a HPV DNA test, 1 month ago I got the results and the HPV DNA test came back negative, the results said it was not detected, then I had another HPV test and it came back negative too for low and high risk HPV, but the PAP SMEAR show atypical cells, ASCUS, and now that I went to the gyn today I had another pap smear done and I'm just waiting for the results. Can HPV be the reason for this abnormal papsmear even though the HPV tests came negative?
