There is no time frame for waiting but most people see symptoms (warts) 4-6 months after exposure. Some people (very tiny %) become infectious years or decades later. Please stop feeling guilty and go on with your sex life as if you are not infected. You really have no other choice.
BTW, if your fiance is not a virgin (10% of virgins somehow have HPV too), then she will never know if she was infected from past partners should she get a positive diagnosis years/decades from now.
Move on from this and remain monogamous. Everything will work out.
Thanks for your response. It helps me to talk about it. If only on a message board. I understand that not all exposures cause infections and my act was a "lower risk"
act but my guilt over this act is eating me alive. I have a fiancé who I love dearly. I know that sounds stupid considering I strayed outside of the relationship. The truth is I made a horrible decision that is ruining my quality of life and I am afraid that one decision may ruin the future with the person I want to be with. It is now 35!days post exposure and I have had negative tests for gonerea chlaymidia and syphilis. But HPV is my new non stop concern. I have been putting off sex with my fiancé for 5 weeks bc I'm afraid of infecting her and don't know how much longer I can do this. Is there a time frame where it will be safe for me to go back to having sex with her? The one thing that makes me feel worse than possibly losing her is the fact that I may infect her bc of my selfish stupid act. Sorry so winded and thanks so much for listening and responding!!!
Can it cause genital warts? No. Can it cause oral cavity warts and oral HPV? Low percentage yes. However, a one time oral sex act is even a lower percentage risk than multiple oral sex acts. You should not worry about this at all but you should have your dentist provide a routine oral cancer screening (they just look inside your mouth) whenever you go for your teeth cleaning or any dental work. In fact, all dentists probably do this anyway. If nothing is seen, then you are clear. Do realize that oral cavity issues can also be caused by alcohol and tobacco use. There is no FDA approved oral HPV screening test available but some companies are marketing rinses that detect it with but the stats on them are not studied or known.
What you did was safe sex (via condoms) is an effective way to prevent getting STDs. Condoms are 97-98% effective against getting HIV, for example. Condoms are not that effective against herpes or HPV and that is one of the reasons why so many people are getting HPV. The only safe sex is no sex. The CSWs have more sex partners than most and ideally the sex you have should be with women that are not that sexually active.
