Will I get Genital Warts?

Will I get Genital Warts?

I'm in a relationship with a girl that may have genital warts. I've had protected sex (including oral) with on more than one occasion. She used to bleed sometimes when we just started having sex but we just attributed that to the fact that she was a virgin. Recently while we were having sex she started bleeding and while I was down there, I looked inside her vagina and I saw some bumps that were bleeding. Some of the blood may have gotten on my pubic hairs and I was reading about the transfer of genital warts. Now I'm a bit worried about having these warts. Is there any way I can find out for sure? And if I do, is there anything I can do that will help? What can I do?

Sometimes sex can irritate warts and cause bleeding especially if they are located right in the opening of the vagina. Blood however has no risk with transmission of HPV, other STD's yes. Always use protection. :)

Being a virgin prior the only way she would have warts is if she had skin to skin gential (genital) contact. If she hasn't then the chances of this being warts would be extremely low. How long have you been together? Could she have gotten HPV from you? Just because you have never had symptoms doesn't mean you don't have HPV strains. Now that the two of you are sexually active you most likely do share HPV if one of you had it prior. This is very common and the good news is you can't bounce it between you. If she does have warts that doesn't mean you will and doesn't mean your bump is a wart. Both of you need to see docs, her a GYN and you a dermatologist to determine what the bumps are and the cause of her bleeding.

If you find you both have HPV/warts you can only treat and wait for your immune system to supress it. This usually happens within 24 months.

So the only way she could've contracted genital warts is through genital contact? Honestly the entire reason genital warts came to mind was because we once had a paranoid pregnancy scare. Way before we became sexually active, we came close to unprotected sex once. My penis was extremely close and touched her clitoris for a second then I pulled away out of fear, and my better sense reminding me of the dangers.

She had always had irregular periods but after that she didn't see her period for a while. So we got scared and started buying pregnancy tests and checking her out. We saw the results were negative but just to make sure we went to a doctor and he inspected her. He was the one who said she had genital warts and this was long before we had become sexually active. We looked up genital warts and saw that it was sexually transmitted, via contact, and since we had only come close to sex only once then it couldn't be that. Now that this has popped up I am a bit concerned, I have been checked out before and I was clean. Now I see that my gf has bumps that are bleeding... I don't know what to think.

When was that visit to the doc when she was told she had warts? Time frame? Did she do any treatments?

I suggest she seeks a second opinion. My thought is the doc prob sees warts often and so they know best but mistakes can be made. Another factor and this is not to point a finger, we all have secrets..but maybe she has had some contact she didn't want to tell you about and that is the source of her warts. You don't need to ask her, just consider it and know that this is not a huge issues. HPV is a factor of life and sexuality.

I think you both need some education on sex, pregnancy and STD's. :) It's good you used your head and didn't proceed past a point that could have resulted in a serious issue such as pregnancy. You can't get her pregnant with just touching your penis to the outside areas of her vagina. Better safe than sorry though!
