Hi Doctor,
I was just diagnosed with high risk HPV infection and mild dysplasia and am schedule for an colposcopy next week. I know high risk HPV increases my risk of developing cervical cancer but I don't understand how serious of a risk this means. Is it something I should be really worried about.
HPV is primarily a std......low/nil transmission risk by other means.Early detection and treatment of HPV is crucial in preventing the development of cerv cancer.....it would take sev years of no papsPap smear Pap smears and cervical cancer to allow HPV to go into cancer.Using condomsCondoms Female condoms is the only means of preventing the spread of this or celibacy.I had CIN 1,two colps, high risk HPV and LEEP all in 2006.My papPap smear Pap smears and cervical cancer came up clear 12-07.I'll go every 4 months now for a year to ensure pap stays clean and i haven't bothered with sex since 9-06 so my risk of getting another strain of HPV is nil.
