high risk hpv and dysplasia

hi all.  i had my colposcopy this week and my dr told me i do have high risk hpv.  she said the dysplasia is mild and might go away on its own and expects biopsies to come back mild.  If that is the case, i go back in 6 months for pap, if not she said whatever it is can be taken care of in the office.  I am 50 years old, have been married 27 years, divorced and had 2 partners the current one for the last 8 months.  i am very scared about this.  any words of encouragement?

if your colopscopy can back normal why are they doing a cone ??.... the colopscopy  is to see if the cells are cancerous or not and if they said all was normal why do they want to continue with treatment?

So you said HPV can lie dormant for 10 or more years.  I have read so much medical literature on this, most stuff says it clears, but some says it stays forever.  I have high grade dysplasia after 35 years normal paps, one ascus, one normal colposcopy.  I am so worried this is far more serious than high grade, maybe adenocarcinoma.  If I have had regular paps and a colpo how did this get so far??  I'm having laser cone monday.

high dysplasia is a scary thing but nothing that cant be treated....i heard a LEEP isnt the best way to treat it but some people have had good success with this... but i know people who have done it and then have normal papas after, that wasnt what they told me to do they offered to do a cone biopsy on me and then they wanted to watch after 6 months... i said no and opted to just wait on my own for 6 months and i just got another pap done and they said it seems to be clearing up and it looks better then last time...dont be scared they will give you some local anesthesia and you might feel some slight cramps during it..... let me know what happens or if you have any other questions...

yes tom you are special and i knew you were a man!!!... yes i would get another opinion JUST IN CASE... im not saying he is wrong but your playing with your throat and dont wanan cut it open if no need to ya know....

HPV is a skin to skin contact disease. It enters the body through small cuts or lesions in the skin.

It doesn't affect the blood at all. That is why people with HPV (and also herpes) can still donate blood (I do). If HPV was spread by blood the American Red Cross would not allow people with it to donate blood (like they do for people with HIV/AIDS..

i have HPV and give blood every 8 weeks... i have ab+ and they used it for the kids who have lukemia

I know it's rare, it's because I'm special. LOL
and BTW, I'm not sure if everybody realizes this but I'm a man.
49 y/o married 10 years w/o cheating -I'm sure.

I posted my situation the the expert forum and they said my treatment plan seem appropriate. I will get a 2nd opinion before allowing any work on my vocal chords.

The pappiloma was found while looking for the reason for a sore throat which was way down on my left vocal chord.

If it's a ulcer, it should heal, if it's a pappiloma it could be removed from it, it it's cancer it would be irradiated. Removal of the chord would be last hope and of course bad for me.

rudyk, You will be in my prayers. My oral LEEP is on the 18th.

BTW, the blood bank called.
Is it safe for me to give blood?
I have rare O- CMV- blood,
commonly used for preemie babies.

hey all i have been diagnosed about a year or so ago....

rudy  this HPV virus is a weird one as it will and can lay dormant in your system for over 10 years.... most women "clear" the virus within 6-24 months of diagnosis....it will never fully leave you body because it is a virus, but you next pap could be normal instead of abnormal.....just make sure you go back at the 6 month mark and get another pap to see what the cells have done..... i have moderate dysplasia, and they did a colposcopy and i just went back for my check up and they said the cells are looking better.... so dont give up hope!....

tom...wow your case is EXTREMLY rare....im sorry for what you are going through and i would love to know what happens after and during your recovery .... im pretty knowlegable about HPV and also a dental assistant. i have seen some cases of HPV int he throat but none that actually had to have treatment , or surgery. i will pray for your speedy recovery.... if they are removing one of your vocal cords..how will talking be?... did you get more then on opinion? there are ALOT of HPV cases . 8 out of 10 women will have some starnd of HPV by the time they are 30 years old.and most men are the carries but there is no test unless there are warts visible...hopefully scientist will come up with  more shots, meds, something to stop this virus.

laylaa... i think the bumps your seeing on the back of your throat are your circumvallate papillae, they kind of look like octupus suction cups... toward the back of your throat they get larger....the yellow coating just sounds like you ate/drank something ... try giving a good brush but  not to hard to your tongue and rise with warm salt water....

Hi , I have HPV in the form of genital warts.
I have noticed yesterday that my tongue has a yellow coating and saw a bump matbe wart on my tongue but far inside  close to my throat.
My first guess is thta I have an pral hpv infection. How were you able to detect throat hpv and what are the symptoms. I have been researching a lot but as you said there' slittle about oral HPV  and throat.
Thank you

I too have been diagnosed with high risk hpv a few years ago. At first I was scared but the more I did research on it and talked to my doc, the more I understood and accepted it. It's actually not as frightening as you think... As long as you get regular pap tests between 6 months to a year, you'll be fine. If the results come back normal, great! If they come back abnormal, they're most likely precancerous, but removed no problem by your doctor and taken care of... It is HIGHLY unlikely you would have full
blown cervical cancer if you get regular pap test. And another positive... The virus goes away on it's own after a year or two. Hope this helps

There's not much I can tell you except you're not alone.
I've been diagnosed with high risk hpv with one in my throat and possibly one on my vocal chords. That one might be an ulcer from acid reflux. On 2-18 I will have the upper one removed in my dr's office and 3 months of Nexium hopefully will heal the other. Otherwise they will have to knock me out and remove that one too. I plan on posting any developments partly because I can find very little on what I'm going thru.
If you could, please post your developments and you could help the next person who comes along.
From what I understand, from the millions of cased of HPV only 15,000 turn to cancer which actually is a very small percentage.
All the best,
Tom
