hpv transmission

i have had only one partner, ever. contracted genital warts approx 2 years after  first having intercourse with  the person to whom i am now married. spose has always denied  ever having relations with anyone else, ever. is this plausible? to be honest, i have doubts

Genital HPV is only transmitted through sexual contact, however it is possible to contract genital HPV without intercourse. It is a skin virus and is transmitted through skin to skin (genital contact). It can be transmitted with the use of condoms, condoms help but are only 70% effective. HPV has the ability to lay dormant for years (over 20 even) before becoming active. In order to contract genital HPV a person would have had some sore of sexual contact but not necessarily intercourse with another person who was infected with the virus.
