just diagnosed

hi i just found out today that i have genital warts... i'm confused with all the information that i'm reading to understand about the virus.  i have one wart on the inside of my thigh.  once this wart is resolved and if i don't have anymore does that mean that the virus is gone? and how can i know for sure? i would never want to put anyone at harm to contract anything.  i was in a 3 yr relationship which ended today when i found about this he does not have hpv or at least no symptoms i'm not sure where i contracted it from.  and what do i do from here? i wasn't given any medication the doc just put the acid on it and it turned white so she said that she's pretty sure that's what it is.. but shouldn't i have more than one? i don't know i'm devastated i've never had any type of STI before...

LightningF I know with the research I did and even the doc at the Health Dept said it was unlikely for it there to just be one but she said she was pretty sure what it was and that all we had to do now was watch for the others... it kinda upsets me though that she wouldn't say she's unsure and refer me to a dermatologist, this is life altering news.  She was very nonchalant about it as if she just told me that the sky was blue, there was a why are you upset vibe to her. The dermatologist I went to was great she was like to be honest I don't think that's what it is but I think we should get it biopsied just to be sure.  Thank you both I feel ok now, with either way I honestly can say I feel ok she kind of eased my mind about both.  She said that if it is HPV we will deal with it...

Told you it's very unlikely for a wart to grow singular (if it's your first infection), also it's unlikely for a genital wart to grow in inner thigh. Even though I dont want to say it's 100% not possible but I always knew it's unlikely for a genital wart to grow there (and without companion). My doctor told me this, also I read a lot of online information that confirmed this. But again, everyone, I dont want to say it's impossible for genital wart to grow in inner thigh part, as im no expert ;)

GREAT NEWS!!! Went to the dermatologist as you recommended, Griever3000, and she said that she doesn't think that it's HPV or genital warts she thinks it's an inflamed skin tag she did the biopsy and we should be receiving the results within the next couple of days!! Which would be awesome! and wow thanks Lightning for shining a light on the secret life of men and prostitutes... and congratulations on your lifestyle change I've decided either way as well I'm going to start leading a more healthy lifestyle I'm hoping that this is simply a scare but thank you guys for helping me to educate myself on things and thank you especially Griever if it weren't for you I would have simply taken this first diagnosis  I'll def keep you up to date :) keep your fingers crossed for me

also you must know nowadays young men cheat all the time. I would tell you this fact because 9 out of 10 young businessmen (who earn above average people) always go to prostitution place at least once a month. I was one of them, i admit that. That's how myself got HPV. Now of course I dont go with them anymore as I have emotional trauma regarding dirty sex.

This kind of people (young men who cheat with prostitutes) usually show different face when they are with their girlfriend/wife. They usually would act nicely but they are actually cheaters. I was one of them, once again I tell you that. I wouldnt be surprised if your ex had this kind of lifestyle too then he infected you before you split up.

Myself have discussed things about this with several of my friends (who all like to play with prostitutes). It's not a surprise that none of them admitted they ever had STDs. I suspect them either lieing or they simply the type who get HPV but never grow any wart (like your ex). I am unlucky that I do grow wart but at the same time I feel it's like a blessing. HPV changed my lifestyle, HPV made me not want to have sex with random women anymore, HPV made me not want to drink in silly nightclubs with these morons anymore, HPV made me eat healthy foods, etc etc.

Dont feel down.

ok let me explain it as best as i can..

1. It's very unlikely for a wart to grow in inner thigh, even though it's near your genital hair area.

2. It's very unlikely for a wart to grow singular, if it's your first outbreak. First outbreak tends to grow multiple warts (because your antibody hasnt been aware of the infection yet)

3. Because you said you have shaved and you found that suspected wart, it could be simply irritation. I had similar case. When I shaved, few days later something like an infection came up with white thingey inside and you can pop it up easily, and the white thingey is also liquid, not solid. This is irritation. A wart should be solid. Have you tried to pop it out? If it cant be popped out, yes it's wart

4. Even if it can't be popped out, it can be just an oil gland. There are oil glands that look similar to wart (white color instead of transparent), however oil glands has this special texture, small in size, never grow, and also look almost flat. Hard to explain with words, i wasnt able to differ them myself but through my derm help i can do it now..

5. If it's indeed wart, you must know that not everyone who has genital wart-causing HPV would grow wart. There are a lot of people, like 30-40% who have asymptomatic infection.. means they have the virus but they dont grow wart. Even if they do, it usually take 3-6 months or even more. It could be that your BF cheated on you months before you got the virus from him. He's just lucky he's the type that dont grow warts.

6. Dont feel down. Warts usually would stop recurring within 3-24 months, some people even never regrow their warts after one time treatment. If you have been wart-free for 6-8 months or a year, you can consider yourself to be cured. It's not really cured but your antibody (by then) has taken care of the virus and the virus stay dormant. While it's in dormant state, you cant infect others. Keep this in your mind so you won't feel down. It's nothing like herpes where you will have it for the rest of your life.

The dermatologist could have done a biopsy to confirm whether or not it is a wart.

If the lesion is still present and you want to be for sure, get it checked by the derma. He/She will be able to look at it and tell you, if confirmation is needed he/she will do a biopsy and send the lesion to a pathology lab to confirm the diagnosis.

Im not sure how long it could take for warts to grow if they spread, it all depends on the immune system of the individual. Everyone is different in that aspect.

i still have the wart it's on my inner thigh in the crease next to my private area i'm sorry i must not have explained it well. shaving is how i found it... how long would it take for it to spread if it were going to spread?  the doc put the acid on it and said that it should come off in a few days and that it looked like it would come off easy. i've decided though i do want to see a dermatologist like i said before i went to a health dept and wasn't given a lot of info on it and i'm hoping that it's not hpv but if it is maybe a dermatologist can give me more answers to my questions and thank you so much for your responses i'm still not sure how to handle all of this

You can bathe normally.

They say that warts can spread if you touch your wart then touch your anus or another part of your genitals, or shave over them, they may spread. Some people say that they have had it spread that way but i dont think its common at all. However you do not have to worry about this. Plus your wart is gone for now.

I dont even think that you have HPV to be honest. Even if you did, theres nothing to worry about either since its on your thigh.

Please dont think about it too much. Dont be depressed. Its only a social stigma that makes HPV is scary. Its not at all scary. Think about people with herpes or HIV. That stuff cannot be cured and causes a lot of emotional and physical pain.

I also saw you post in another topic where the girl had only one outbreak about 10 years back and shes still afraid of spreading the virus. This is wrong and she is misinformed. Most likely, she does not have the virus anymore at all.

this may be a crazy question but i can't help but be afraid when i bathe that i'm going to spread it to other parts of my genital area should i be doing something special when i bathe? i know they are highly contagious and if i can keep it to just the one i would much rather that of course. and i def think i'm going to see a dermatologist this is so life altering i really do want to know that's 100% this is what i have i don't want to go with this is what i think it is...

No problem, its good that its not on the actual genital area.

A wart is just a wart no matter what it is. If you dont have any abormal changes in your cervix you dont have the high risk strain so thats even better.

trust me, i know what you mean by the insurance part. I am a college student myself and seeing a dermatologist without insurance can be expensive.

I think you should be fine though. just keep a look out for any wart developments on your genitals, if you think you see something go to the derma.

thank you so much for this post you have no idea how much better you just made me feel... the only issue is that i'm a student and i don't have any insurance so for me to go to a dermatologist is simply something that i can not afford at this time i was diagnosed at my local health dept. the wart is on the crease of my thigh which is technically considered the genital area but is not on my actual private area.  i just hate that there are no for sure hpv tests except for the pap smear to see if you have abnormal cells.  but i will continue to research and try to educate myself on this once again thank you so very much!!

The information out there about GW can be very confusing since a lot of experts have difference of opinion on the virus.

You have one wart on your thigh, but none on your genital area?

Warts can be anywhere, from your hands, feet, body. Every wart is caused by a certain strain of the Human papillomavirus (HPV) no matter the location.

Whether the virus is gone or no from the removal of the wart is not none 100%. Some experts believe that if you remove the warts and the wart doesnt show up for a certain amount of time (6 month or more) then you can consider yourself cured. Some experts believe that you will always have some sort of HPV DNA inside your body whether the warts are gone or not. The immune System plays a central role in controlling HPV. Statistics say that it takes about 8-24 months for your body to clear the infection and/or take care of the virus.

Think of it this way, chicken-pox, you always have it just like any other virus but your body eventually takes care of it. HPV is not like Herpes or HIV where it stays in your body indefinitley causing outbreaks throughout life.

With warts, you cant ever know for sure whether they are gone or not but if they dont show up within more than 6 months, its a high chance that they wont come back. However, whether or not the virus is still transmissible or not is unknown. Its up to you wether you want to tell future partners. Also, most people who have already slept with one another cannot ping-pong the virus back and forth so they can continue having intercourse.

A lot of the population has HPV, most people are asymptomatic, not showing symptoms. So just because he didnt show anything, doesnt mean he didnt have it.

The acid test for warts shouldnt even be done, it produces a lot of false-positives and isnt reliable.

I would get this checked by a dermatologist, see if it comes back or not. Some doctors dont know what theyre doing. Its sad but true, see a specialist.

Dont worry, this virus is very common. The body usually takes care of it in time. Just eat healthy, take daily vitamins, do things to have a healthy immune system. =)
