This forum is an un-mediated, patient-to-patient forum for questions and support regarding HPV issues such as: genital warts, causes, diagnosis, cervical cancer, HPV in men, PAP tests, treatment, telling your spouse or partner
its odd that your papPap smear Pap smears and cervical cancer came up "normal" and then you have HPV?....... did they tell you what strand?..... your shouldnt have normal paps with HPV unless you have the strand that auses warts,,,,, they other strands casue abnormal paps.......
depending on what type of HPV you have there are many options..... a biopsy, a coloskpy, a LEEP, and many other options...
Hate to disagree w/ turkee23...but I'm 36yrs old and have had normal paps forever..and my last gyn appt. in Sept my PAP was normal but I tested positive for high risk HPV (I have a follow up in April). You CAN test positive and have a normal pap..that just means that the virus is "shedding"/active in your system and HASN'T affected your cells abnormally. Hopefully your/my body will suppress the virus and it never progresses to anything.
My gyn told me the best way to combat the virus is to :
1.not stress
2. boost my immune system (take multi w/ folic, eat LOTS of fruits/veggies, avoid alcohol/smoking)
The virus can be suppressed by the body for decades and "reappear" when the body's immune system weakens. I just started taking "Papillex". It's all natural and figure that it couldn't hurt to strengthen my immune system.
Thanks for your response. I must ask my gyn what strand i have?
I am not worried. I have always had normal paps. I have had no sexual partners for 20 years and have a pap tests regularly. I am sure that I must have aquired the hpv when I was in my 20's? In any case, I am going to keep a check on it.
I noticed that especially in older women that if you have had at least 3 normal pap test in sucession that you do not have to have hpv test done anymore.

I'm hoping tha when I go back in April that my PAP still cmes back normal and the hpv test is negative.
Here's to staying positive!!
