oral HPV?

oral HPV?

My pap test recently came back postive for HPV.  Prior to the news, my husnband and I had oral sex.  What are the chances that I might get oral HPV?  What are the symptoms of oral HPV?  If I do have oral HPV how careful should I be when it comes to kissing my daughter or taste testing when I'm cooking?

Thanks for your time.

HPV is actually rarely found in your mouth, I mean it's not impossible but as far as I know the virus prefers other areas.  ALSO, your pap may have not shown abnormalities before, but that doesn't mean you didn't have HPV.  Doctors dont test for HPV unless you are over a certain age or show abnormal pap.  So whatever they saw in your pap, it was abnormal cell changes or something like that...did they do an actual HPV test? Cause then they can determine the strain of it I think.  You could have had HPV for years and not known it.  It's actually not a huge deal.  You just have to try to eat healthy, exercise and if you smoke, well, don't.  Basically a healthy lifestyle will fight off a virus like this and your body will clear the infection.  There are a few rare cases where it can lead to warts or cervical cancer.  Warts are usually not harmful, though cancer, obviously, is a big deal.  Talk to your doctor about what strain of HPV it is.  If the pap is abnormal but they didn't actually do a test for HPV, have them do the test.  You could have low risk HPV which will probably clear up on it's own, or high risk which you will just have to check up on at your next pap and make sure it isn't getting worse.  The media likes to scare us and wants to make money off of the vaccine, but I think that usually HPV is only a problem when people aren't persistent in testing and taking care of themselves.  There are a few exceptions where maybe it goes unnoticed or if someone doesn't have proper health care, but if you are able to check and test and afford all this then by all means find out what strain of it and ask your doctor these questions too.  You most likely did not get HPV from oral sex...it usually takes a long time for HPV to manifest into something that would alter a pap smear.

I guess the question is...can it be transfered to the mouth through oral sex? What are the symptoms of oral STDs do you know.  I may be trippin since finding out I am HPV positive.  But then again, you can never be too sure or safe.

And, my inital pap smear was abnormal so my OB retested me and thats when it came back as HPV positive.  She rescheduled me to come back in  4 months to monitor.  I'll ask then waht stran it is.
