Spotting after hysterectomy

Spotting after hysterectomy

I had a complete hysterectomy (both ovaries removed) 5 years ago.  Have not had a problem until recently.
Have had slight spotting in the past year.  Went to a urologist and he had me get a ct scan of the abdomin (abdomen) and pelvis and then did the scope of the bladder.  All results were fine.  I recently discovered that this is spotting from the vaginal area and not urinary.  Have an appt in 2 days with my genecologist.  I had breast caner in 2005 and a lumpectomy and radiation.  Have been taking aromasin for the past 2 years and other meds before that (about 5 years all together now).  There is an odor as well, but no excessive bleeding.  Would like to know what this could possible be?  After 5 years, you don't expect anything like this.

Hello pgpapergirl,

It could be due to vaginal atrophy being that you had both ovaries were removed. My suspision of this etiology would be further enhanced if you reported spotting related to intercourse. Differential diagnosis should include granulation tissue along the posterior vagina, vaginitis, hemorrhoids, and trauma. Lastly, cervical and vaginal cancer. The simplest thing to do is be examined by your gynecologist. The word total hysterectomy would indicate to me that your cervix was removed. You did not use these words. Please have your gynecologist confirm that you cervix was indeed removed. I hope this helps.

Thank you for answering my questions.  I did see my gyne today and she said it looks like vaginal atrophy. Between the complete hysterectomy - which did include removal of the cervix - and the fact that I have been taking oral cancer meds (aromasin) for the past 6 years - she did a complete exam with a pap smear and said that is what she concludes - atrophy.  Thank you for replying.
