If you have endometreosis and ovarian cysts and opt to have a hysterectomy, DO NOT go on HRT. You should be made aware that unless your doctor was lucky enough to get out all of the endometriosis ( which he isn't), you will still have the disease. I had that problem myself and had a hysterectomy done and went immediately on HRT's not knowing at the time that HRT's feed endometriosis just like the ovaries did. The result was a second surgery 5 yrs. later for a huge mass that came up in my abdomen consisting of endometriosis and scar tissue. Beware of HRT's. Had I not taken HRT after surgery, the second surgery would never have happened. The doctor told me this.
I do agree I am only 1 month out from having it. My only concern is the adjustment with the thyroid medication. I don't have a thyroid. I am already on a high dose.
I guess we will see how it goes. I will update good or bad every 3 months or so.
While we all different in responding to hysterectomy Milli did it 10 years ago whole your is less than a month ago. Lets look at the long term not short term coz libmum is asking for long terms effects as well. Hope there are others who did it who can add to the discussion. I have been thinking of closing shop too do hopefully I will benefit from inputs.
That's true. We're all different. Some of us do do very well after a hysterectomy, while others do not.
See how you do without HRT. If you don't do well talk to your Dr about taking Black Kohosh. It's a natural supplement and can help with menopause symptoms.
I just had a hysterectomy done on Feb.11 (full one) by laparoscopic surgery.
I can say I do not have ANY issues so far. I did have it done vaginal & laparoscopic but have the 3 small incisions on my belly, but nothing really noticeable.
I am 42 and my gyno immediately put me on the HRT patch the day after.
My surgery was "day surgery", I went in at 7:30am and home by 11am..
I only took 1 week off work. I can not tell any difference as far as being on the HRT patch. I am also on thyroid medication and so far I am fine & at work.
I don't regret having it done at all. However, everyone is different.
I just looked over my post...sorry for all the typos...my kindle has a mind of its own and added ed to breast and few other things. I was unable to view what I typed due to the size but I hope you were able to understand some of it...good luck whatever you do....just make sure you understand and trust your doctor. In addition find out what happens next....after my hysterectomy I couldn't find any decent doctor to help me.
I wish I knew what I know now when I had my hysterectomy done....I would have never done it and regret it so bad. I am 43 yrs old, I had my hysterectomy at 33 or 34 due to ovarian cysts, endometriosis and extreme pain. I was on Lupron injections for a couple of yrs (can't remember exact amount of time). I remember loving the shots because it lessoned my pain and I didn't have a period for 6 months with every injection. Today I believe I was so niave and just wanted to stop taking tons of pain medication and dealing with the whole thing in general, that when my doctor said hysterectomy....I jumped on board. Since then I had to go on HRTs (mine was estrarest a combo of estragen and testoterone) for libido which the testosterone helped with, vaginal dryness, hot flashes and moodiness. Long story short I got rid of one problem fordable whole set of new ones. I can no longer be on HRTs because last year I had an abnormal mammogram and had to have a lumpectomy and was diagnosed with ADH (atypical ductile hyperplasia which is abnormal cells that increase my risk of breasted cancer by 50% and is estrogen driven). So now my oncologist put me on a drug called evista which is a drug to decrease my chances of breasted cancer. It may as well be poison, it causes so much pain and sickness. So in addition to all that without all of your female parts I'm also at an increased problem of osteoprosis...For ME a Hysterectomy added so many problems that nobody, even my doctor warned me about.....horrible decision for me and like I said if I could do it all over again I would do so much research and exhaust all options....just one persons opinion.....hope this helps.
