Thank you for posting your update. It is giving me hope. I'm dealing with a similar problem - have had shooting "tailbone" pain when I sit or get up for a year and a half. A few months ago I learned I was anemic (I felt fine with a level of 9). I chalked up my tiredness to the fact that I have 3 small children. I've been taking iron/vitamin C/colace since then and completed a few months of physical therapy which did not help with the tailbone pain, it only exhausted me more, really. I then saw a gyn who did a transvaginal ultrasound and said I have adenomyosis. I am scheduled for a LAVH in two weeks and hoping this is the solution to all of my problems: the tailbone pain, the anemia, and the horrendous periods. Thanks again!
Hi Everybody....just thought I would give an update in case someone else is searching this site with back pain and wondering if it could be related to gyn. problems. I had my LAVH this past Monday and feel great!!! Like I said before I was dealing with "severe lower back pain" realize now it was worse than I was willing to admit at the time I wrote the first post. The pain had been extreme for over a year, but present for almost 3. Anyhow, i decided to go with the hysterectomy to take my chances and fix the other problems I was experiencing. Thank goodness I did. The evening of my suregery I still had the back pain, the doctor figured it was d/t edema. He gave me some Toradol and I have not had any pain in the lower back since Tuesday. I have to admit I am a little tender (feels like I did 5,000 sit ups) but the pain I am feeling now is minimal to what I had prior. I know it is too soon to tell if the back pain will be gone completely but atleast there is hope. Before I had the surgery I was starting to feel like there wasn't any. Although I know a hysterectomy is a "major surgery" I for one am glad I did it. The doctor told me that my uterus weighed more than 5 times a normal one and I had endometreosis with adhesions. So....yes I do believe that back pain can be secondary to uterine problems. Thank you all for the advice and support I received here. And if any of you are looking at getting a hysterectomy go to the following site for support and advice: ************.com!!!!

Thanks for the input. I have been doctoring for both, but mostly concerned about the back pain. Yesterday was a bad day, but I would say that even on a good day the pain is not lower than a 5, and yes it is there 100% of the time. I like to believe I can tolerate pain fairly well, but this has been intense. I feel if I ever judged pain to be a 9 or a 10 I would have to be on my way to the emergency room. I am currently on Gabapentin and Vicodin. The Vicodin does little for the pain, perhaps takes the "edge" off. Ok, so the reason the DO at the pain clinic is starting to lean toward the uterus possibly causing the problem is because after the second epidural I had no relief. He feels that if it were a disc issue I would have had a little bit of a response even if temporary. I think I feel two sets of pain, one being the disc (I have had that for a few years, i think) I feel a sharp pain when I stand, bend forward and backwards. The main pain is located in the SI joints bilaterally, through the hips and into my groin. What have you done foe the disc issue you have.
basically what Im saying is I think the back pain is from the discs, and the enlarged uterus is secondary. Im more concerned for you about the bones than the uterus.
Hi well I had both issues still have degenerative disk disease,I had a hysterectomy in 05 because of endometroisis , andenomyosis (enlarged boggy uterus...alsocysts on ovaries, my uterus was attached to bowels and bladder...pain can radiate.
i really think you have two seperate issues involving two seperate body systems.
Your pain level is very high.I would urge you to see a Neurosurgeon ...if you need a hyster ..he may want to hop on board and do some work to the spine called a discectomy. those bones will continue to disenigrate, the nerve bundles can become comprimised the best dr to see to discuss this with is a neurologist
