Concerns about hysterectomy and ocvarion cysts

Hello need some advice, Im a 40 years old and not planning for anymore children, I have had two surgeries for ovarian cysts from both my ovaries, and don't want any more surgeries, I want this one to be the last, my concern is my doctor said I have Adenemyosis and a cysts on my right ovary, he said the best thing to do is a hysterctomy and keeping my left ovary,

My question is, being that i'v had cysts in the past after the hysterectomy is it possible to get cysts? and is a hysterctomy the right thing to do? Will i still have periods? and should I get on the Depo shot like used to be because of the cysts? when Iam getting close to my periods now i get really bad disconfert with pain is it becasue of adenomyosis? or the cysts that I have now?

Need Help

Be really careful about doing to much too soon this takes alot out of us ( Lol no pun intended) once I felt better I really wasnt completley healed. Remember you cant see what your insides look like and this is major surgery. But I will tell you living with out constant pain is like having my life back.

Hi, just wanted to comment.  Cherie762 has given you information that is right on and I really can't add any more.  After suffering from cysts, first on one ovary (which resulted in its removal), then a year later more problems with cysts along with adenomyosis, I had a total hysterectomy in March 08.  I'm on the Climara patch and feel great, better than I've felt in a long time.

I'm 49 and my recovery took longer than the 6 weeks.  Actually, at nearly 7 months out I still, very occasionally, feel that fatigued feeling.  I kind of hit the ground running 3 weeks out of surgery, though.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Endometriosis is when the lining of you uterus that should come out with your monthly period go's into your abdominal caivity instead it can "land " about any where , usually on interstines, ovaries, or just muscle or fatty tissue. It causes pain

Andeomyosis is when the lining of your uterus that should shed during menses gets trapped inbetween the walls of the uterus, causint the uterus to become enlarge, and boogey or sponge like, its usually painful,

Endo can turn into Andeo, but not the other way around.

As for how long the surgery will take I cant answer that I had a Divinci robotic assisted hysterectomy and it took 4 hours, It really depends on what method your dr. uses also he doe not have any way of knowing what suprises he may find when he gets into your pelvis, there could be scar tisue or addhesions he may have to deal with as well as the surgery.

Leaving one ovary is a good choice for most , you will still have all your hormones, the remainig ovary will kinda do doublw work, just like a person with only one kidney.

Its great when the surgery is over and you are recovered a dn pain free, and if your anything like me its great to not have a period anymoe too,  just one last bit of advice...recovery from this is hard...each weeks gets better it takes 3-6 weeks to feel somewhat normal, and I will be honest with you the first week is really hard. If you can get help from others take it, I had to have people bring meals for my family, my sister came to clean my house, my older kids did laundry,,,,all you will wan to do is rest.

Good luck

I thank you so much for the info, that did help out, how long is the surgery? so thank correct me if im wrong andeomyosis turns into endrometriosi? if not taken care of? and what is endrometriosi? well my cyst to last exam i had was only 1cm but in the past i know that my cyst tent to grow to fast. i don't know if this would be the case with this cyst this is why i don't know were the pain is coming from, frome the andeomyosis or the cyst. how do you keep the ovary healthy is there natural meds?

no i don't urinate that much i do at night but because i drink lots of water during the night

thank you so much for your info

hi you sound a lot like me, I think i can help you..I had andeomyosis in 2007 they removed my uterus and cervix ( at this point you will never have a period again)

Lucky me in 2008 I developed a large cyst on my left ovary,,I had to go through an entire year of pain before, I got surgery to remove my ovary , I am 46 with my crappy history of female problems I told the doctor to just go ahead and take out my healthy right ovary too, because I was feed up with having surgeries I had several laproscopies to remove endometrial tissue before my endrometriosi turned into andeomyosis.

If you keep your healthy ovary its a plus because you wont be thrown into menopause. Could you develop cysts on this ovary the anwser is yes, also you are going to have scar tissue.

Yes your period severe pain is because of the Andeomyosis, its like your uterus turns into a big sponge,, all the tissue that is  suposed to come out does not.  I bet your urinating more now than you used to , right??thats because your uterus is putting pressure on bladder,

Your ovarian cyst pain depends on what kind of cyst it is functional cysts ease up with menses.  My cyst was 3 cm and when the dr saw inside me with the laproscope they found out why I was hurting so bad. My ovary was tangled up in a bunch of scar tissue and had attached to my bowel...I hope this helped you.

there are pros and cons to keeping your healthy ovary,,,its your choice.I now have to deal with menopause, but i know I will never have ovarian cancer  or the pain of cysts again.  so for me this was the right decision,
