Confused and scared about surgery

Hi i am scheduled to have a hysterectomy in 2 wks. Well now tha i have put my trust in my gyn i have heard something that has me concerned. He has already done a laprascopy last week .Thought i had a cyst but, found out its' endometriotis. Mind you i have only been going to him for 2 wks. I am not planning on more kids had my tubes tied. Well i was talking to a woman i know .Come to find out she had the same doc. She showed me her stomach he messed her up when he did her surgery. He cut into her intestines so she had a colostimy bag .I know there's a chance something like this could happen to anyone . Should i trust that god will be with me on this ? Or go to someone else? Everybody else i talk to talks highly of him . He delivered my sisters daughter 9 yrs ago . I am tired of being in pain all of the time but, now i dont't know what to do and if  he's not a good doctor how is he still a doctor?

I found online and purchased "The Worried Woman's Guide to a Happy Hysterectomy". It was hugely helpful to me, and I was much less nervous about the whole ordeal since I had read and used this manual. I pray everyone experiences as much success with their surgeries as I did - I feel truly like a new woman since my hysterectomy. Go forth, be brave, and plan to enjoy life much more after recovery!!!

Sissy - right before my hysterectomy, with a brand new doctor who was referred by two trusted friends, I discovered online he had been sued years ago for blundering an operation. In person I felt 100% confident in this doctor's personality and integrity. The law suit only made me think, "Well, he'll be careful to never do THAT again, right?!"  Unless you have doubts about this doctor from your personal encounters with him, and if you have women you know and trust who trust him, I say, give him a chance. My surgery (laparoscopic hysterectomy on "one, big, nasty uterus" with the Da Vinci robot) was the best thing I ever had done and I feel great the doctor. If you doubt your own intuition about your doctor, take more time to reconsider or seek another physician. If you feel good about him, give him a chance to help you. Best wishes to you!!

That's great news. I'm glad you were able to find info on your Dr. I'm sure that makes you feel so much better.
Okay, to prepare for your surgery. First, you can cook a lot of meals that can be frozen and easily put in the microwave. Things like chili, casseroles and stew. You can just add a salad and bread. Get yourself lots of books or magazines. Have someone pick up movies for you the day you get home, or the day after. Lean on family and friends. If anyone asks if they can do something, say yes. Let them clean the house and take care of your kids. Don't use stairs, take a bath, only showers, no sex and just rest as much as you can for 6 weeks. I know you'll feel better long before that but you need to give your body time to heal.
As soon as you get home have someone pick up your pain meds for you. Your Dr will send you home with a script.
If I can think of anything else I'll let you know.  Take care. Remar

I have been praying and feel like God has put me a peace with everything. So now i am just going tobelieve in him. They are only taking  out my uterus so i don't have to be on hormones . He took pictures when he did the laproscopy . Fortunatly we caught this in early stages. He said my ovaries were beautiful . My husband asked him if the ovaries were staying and the Dr said jokeingly "so i would't kill him " yes . My husband doesn't want me going nuts or anything. Already half ther lol . Now i just have to keep my mind busy till the day comes going to have this done the day after valentines if we don't have any more bad weather it has been sleeting and snowing for 2 days . It finally stoped lastnight. No it has to thaw out. Thanks if i need to talk i will be back . Later and God bless

You do have a long history of female problems.
It sounds like trying the pill is out of the question for you. Actually, it may have been why you were able to have your children. This is a treatment some Drs use to keep the endometriosis under control.
I see your situation with living in a small town and not having surgeons there.
Can you call your PCP and ask him more about this Dr? Maybe get some references?
I'm not saying he's a bad Dr by no means. Things can happen in the operating room with the best Drs in the world. I had to have my uterus dissected because it was grown to everything. My Dr said it was basically a mess in there. Anyway, I did great with the surgery and my recovery. I asked a lot of questions before hand. My Dr even started me on hormones at the hospital.
I wish I could tell you what to do, but I can't. This is a decision you have to make. The only thing I can recommend is to research and ask questions of both your PCP and the surgeon. You will be happy to be out of pain, no doubt about that. Another thing I mentioned before is to talk to the Dr about hormones before the surgery. Do research on the Bio Identical hormones. If they offer you Premarin, well, just do the research and you won't want to take it.
I'm here if you want to talk, okay. Take care. Remar

Good morning well you see i am 33 i have ahystery of female problems. Lets see where do i begin i started my period when i was 9 yrs old having it every other wk. I would be in so much pain and sick to my tummy i missed alot of school i was scared  being so young not raelly understanding then. They put me on the pill at 12 yrs the only time i wasnt taking that stinking pill was when i had my precious kids. 2 girls one will be 10 monday the other 10 months on the 8th of feb .I was told i would not have children. God had other plans. So that is why i had my tubes tied didn't want back on that pill . So when he said hysterectomy i said relief from everything. I live in a small town in oklahoma .So the doctor i am going to has to come from out of town. That is why i chose to see him. If not i would be on a waiting list and my primary care dr would have to find another dr. My primary care dr refered me to this gyn.

I know exactly what your going through. It took my Dr a long time to diagnose me. When I ended up in the hospital because of internal bleeding he did a laparscopy,sp? and found that I had severe endometriosis. We tried the only med available at the time but it did'nt work. So I gave the okay for the surgery.
This is an extremely painful condition. But I really do wish you would get a second opinion. I'm wondering if you can have laser surgery to remove the endometrial tissue. Have you tried birth control pills? I know with some women this helps.
This is your body and your paying this Dr. I would'nt let him put a time limit on the surgery. Can you call another Dr tomorrow to get a second opinion? Be up front and ask how many hysterectomies he/she has done and if you can get references.
I'm not trying to sway you one way or the other. Having the surgery was the right thing for me. I just wish I would have had more options back then. They did'nt have the laser surgery back then.
Of course praying about this will help. I'm here if you want to talk more. You can even send me a PM. Take care. Remar

If your having any doubts at all about this Dr get a second opinion.
I also had severe endometriosis and that's why I had my hysterectomy. That was many years ago when there was very little that could be done for it.
Now there are more treatments available. Ask your Dr about them and if he says he does'nt want to consider them then please see another Dr.
This is major surgery and you want to have full confidence in your Dr. I did with mine. Take care. Remar
