Does endometrial ablation result in hysterectomy

I am 51 and haven't had a period in two years or so and have been diagnosed with thickening of the uterus lining. My doctor did a biopsy and there are no cancer cells, but there is a possible polyp. My doctor is recomending for me to have the polyp removed and also endometrial ablation. I have been reading that some women who have this done end up having a hysterectomy a year or so later. Is this the norm? Does this procedure have a long term effect for anyone? Is there some other option I should discuss with my doctor?

Hi,,I hope help you in understanding  this procedure and the possible risks, which are few.
an albation is done via a hysterscope a sm thin insturment inserted through dialated cervix into uterus,,its purpose is to destroy the extra tissue..can use , heat, cryno (freeze)radio frequency....a ballon filled w hot h20 or saline, microwave .

risks and remember Drs must tell you ALL risks very unlikely tear in uterus..accidently puncturing uterus..pulmonary embolism (blood clot to lung) pulomanary edema (fluid in lungs)

This works well on most women..the procedure AVOIDS hyster on most women especially for thick lining or a polyp,

you should get a pen and paper and write down all you questions..this way you remember all to ask Dr when I do this I write down his/her answers....

alternatives..a laproscopy surgery..invasive..more trauma to body..safe yes , risks more than albation. a hysterectomy...hard difficult recovery..loss of hormones ..

dont have a hyster until you have worn out other options..not for your condition.
